Chapter

I never thought Ambrose would take me to such a fancy apartment

The moment I stepped inside, I couldn’t help but ask, Where did you get the money for all this?”

It was common knowledge back home that his mother had died young and his father was an alcoholic. There were even whispers that he’d been found on the streets

With my curious eyes on him, Ambrose finally spoke. He said his biological parents had come looking for him

A rush of joy flooded me. Without thinking, I grabbed his arm. That’s amazing! Have they been good to you?”

Ambrose simply nodded. Without another word, he started showing me around the apartment. He

went on to say that he truly needed someone to look after him and asked me to stay

When we reached his bedroom, my gaze drifted to the corner of his desk. A passport lay there, and

for a moment, I found myself lost in thought

But before I could dwell on it, he led me to an empty room

You’ve been searching for me, and I’ve been searching for you, too. I figured we’d find each other. again eventually, so I prepared a room for you ahead of time.”

With that, he pushed the door open. The room was decorated exactly the way I liked

Tears pricked my eyes before I could stop them. Memories of how he had cared for me in my past life came rushing back

We had always been there for one another in every way. If he had only one bite to eat, he’d split it with me. If I found something valuable diving in the sea, I’d sell it and share the money with him

Back in our hardest days, we’d even scavenged through trash and begged for scraps together

As the memory surfaced, my stomach suddenly growled. In the stillness of the room, the sound

echoed loudly

My face heated up, and I quickly ducked my head in shame

Right then, Ambrose appeared, carrying a glass of water. Catching the sound, a flicker of

amusement lit up his eyes. You haven’t eaten yet, have you? I’ve got some food stored here. Let me make you something.”

Before I could protest, he’d already tied an apron around his waist and moved into the kitchen. Soon, the sound of chopping echoed softly through the room

I leaned against the doorway, my eyes fixed on his back. A warmth blossomed in my chest, and for a moment, everything felt utterly peaceful

Before long, two dishes and a steaming bowl of soup arrived. Every one of them was a familiar favorite from home.

Ambrose’s face appeared especially gentle through the haze of rising steam

I picked up my fork and took a small bite

Tears welled up in my eyes almost immediately. The familiar flavor carried me back to the days. when I often went to bed hungry

No matter how hard life became, Ambrose always managed to bring me food. Sometimes, he even

cooked for me himself

I still couldn’t believe I had let a man like him slip away in my past life

Back then, he hadn’t yet found his birth parents. Out of sheer desperation, I made the decision to sign that fateful marriage contract

After that, I gave Ambrose some money and even helped him find a place to live, hoping we could both build a better life

But as time passed, my heart slowly turned to Emmett

Ambrose would always watch me with concern, pleading with me to reconsider. After a fierce argument, we stopped speaking for a long time

It wasn’t until then that I realized he had never accepted anything I gave him

From that moment forward, he disappeared from my life for good

With each memory, the weight of my grief grew heavier. Tears flowed freely down my cheeks

Back then, Ambrose would gently run his fingers through my hair and call me, Dani.”

Meanwhile, I would trail closely behind him, murmuring his name again and again

As the memories came rushing back, I couldn’t help but sniffle. My voice trembled as I whispered

Amby.”

Ambrose froze, his fork hovering in midair. He met my eyes, his expression softening into a faint smile. Aren’t you supposed to call me your fiance?”

My cheeks flushed, and through my tears, I let out a soft laugh. “Stop teasing me. I only said that to get away from that lunatic.”

Ambrose didn’t reply, instead reaching out and ruffling my hair. His hand was warm, carrying that same familiar tenderness I knew so well

You can call me whatever you like. His eyes stayed fixed on me, unwilling to look away

After we finished eating, I helped clear the dishes

All of a sudden, a thought struck me. I looked up and asked, Are you planning to go abroad?”
