Chapter 10
It was in that moment that everything Emmett and I had dissolved like a passing dream.
Starting fresh, my relationship with Ambrose gradually grew deeper.
When I came of age, everything fell into place naturally. He wasted no time and took me straight to register our marriage.
The night before, he asked me about Emmett, wanting to hear the truth. I brushed it off with a few vague words, and he didn’t question me further.
But in the past few days, he’d begun to realize that something wasn’t right.
Standing here, he burned with anger–it wasn’t directed at me, but at Emmett.
As Emmett was restrained, Ambrose’s stern voice cut through the air. “Don’t let me see you again, or the Reid family won’t escape my wrath, either.”
Blood trickled from the corner of Emmett’s mouth as he glared at us both.
Fearing he might say something reckless, I quickly pulled Ambrose away. Behind us, Emmett shouted hoarsely at the top of his lungs.
Once we got home, Ambrose clutched his head. I could tell his headache was flaring up again. I gently helped him onto the couch and started rubbing his temples.
These episodes continued even while we were abroad. It was obvious he hadn’t completely recovered from the car accident.
Before long, John and Patricia reached out to me. They explained that he had initially agreed to go abroad for treatment but had somehow changed his mind. They hoped I would encourage him to go and be there for him.
When Ambrose’s emotions gradually settled, he asked as he held my hand, “I’ve already arranged everything for the school transfer. Are you sure you’re okay with it?”
I smiled faintly and nodded.
I had chosen this school back then to fulfill a dream we both shared as children. But once we got there, Ambrose and I discovered something even more profound–no matter where we were, being together was all that mattered.
The following day, Ambrose and I handed in the transfer application together.
Upon seeing Ambrose, the principal didn’t raise any objections. After all, the Talerico family had long been an undisputed force in the city.
Meanwhile, Emmett somehow got my contact details and had been relentlessly texting me for days. When he noticed I still hadn’t responded to his last message, he decided to give me a call.
“I need to see you. If I don’t, I’ll spill everything about the past life to Ambrose. You don’t want him to find out, do you?”

I stayed silent. Eventually, I made up my mind to meet him one last time.
At the school auditorium, Emmett looked completely worn out. Gone was the proud, arrogant man I once knew. In his hand, he clutched a divorce certificate.
“I’m already divorced! I can’t live without you. Please, let’s get back together!” he shouted like a
madman.
“Weren’t we happy in our last life? For seven years, wasn’t I the one you loved most? Everything that happened before was entirely my fault. Just tell me what you need, and I’ll make it happen!”
I remained silent for a while, observing his desperation from afar before speaking. “Emmett, I waited seven years for you last time. Can’t you even hold on for two?”
His face changed instantly, and he dropped to his knees before me. “I get it now. That’s why I’m ready to fix everything between us.”
I took a step back. My eyes remained fixed on him, cold and unrelenting. “I don’t want your apologies. All I’m asking is for you to vanish from my life and never disrupt the happiness Ambrose and I have.”
INI!
Upon hearing that, Emmett suddenly erupted in laughter, throwing his head back to the sky. Your happiness with Ambrose? And what about me? What am I to you?”
He got to his feet, his eyes hardening as they locked onto mine.

I frowned. “Why do you keep acting all sentimental? Do you think I haven’t heard about everything that’s happened over the past two years?
“Weren’t you and Heather all over each other? Didn’t you two roam the world together? You’ve been in the spotlight, plastered across newspapers and magazines. Do you seriously think I’m unaware of the truth?”
Emmett froze, slowly shaking his head. “It’s not what you think-”
“Cut the act,” I taunted, interrupting him. “After you married Heather, you realized she wasn’t anything special. It wasn’t until things collapsed between you two that I even crossed your mind. After all, I used to be the obedient teenager you could count on.”
My last words tore through Emmett’s mask.
He lunged at me, desperation flooding his expression. A sharp knife had suddenly materialized in his hand.
Just as he was about to strike, a loud bang rang through the air.
He dropped to the ground in an instant, collapsing right at my feet.
