Chapter 43 Extortion
In her office, Nancy’s phone rang. It was a call from Martha.
“I’ll have Wendy clear things up for you.” Martha’s voice was firm and direct.
Nancy hadn’t expected Martha to get involved. After a brief pause, she asked, “Grandma, so you
believed me?”
Martha’s weathered voice held a trace of resignation. “It’s not that I believe you. It’s that I
understand them.”
In her youth, Martha had been a powerhouse in the business world. Running the vast Lidell family empire meant she knew how to see through the schemes of younger relatives.
Nancy responded calmly, “So, I’m guessing you’ve already spoken with Wendy. What did she say?”
Martha appreciated Nancy’s sharp mind. “Exactly. She agreed, but only if you meet her alone. If
you want, I can come with you.”
Nancy shook her head. “It’s fine. I’ll meet with her alone, just to respect her wishes.”
After ending
the call, Nancy noticed a message from Regina. The main point was clear. Nancy should apologize to Wendy to settle the issue.
The message was full of demands, but Nancy ignored it completely.
That afternoon, Nancy arrived at a private room in a cafe to meet Wendy.
Smirking, Wendy sat with her legs crossed, her gaze full of disdain.
Her face was dotted with red spots, but Nancy immediately sensed something was off.
Nancy took a seat opposite her and ordered a cup of black coffee. When it arrived, she sipped it with effortless grace.
Wendy’s smile faded, and she was unable to hold herself back any longer. “Nancy, what do you want from me by dragging Grandma into this?”
Nancy shot her a nonchalant look. “I never asked Grandma to get involved.
I
Wendy crossed her arms. “Alright, no more messing around. You want me to help you clean up the
mess online, right?”
The feeling of being at a disadvantage made Wendy furious, and she decided Nancy would pay an even higher price.
“Okay then. Tell me, why did you frame me?” Nancy asked coolly.
Wendy’s irritation flared immediately. “What do you mean by I framed you? Look at what you did to my face!”
“So what ingredient did you have an allergic reaction to?” Nancy asked.
“How should I know? That’s your problem!” Wendy snapped, acting completely unreasonable. ‘

Nancy, I’ll be straight with you. We’re family, so it’s possible for me to help. But it’s going to cost you this much.”
With that, Wendy held up five fingers.
“50 thousand?” Nancy asked.
“50 million! What are you talking about? Dream on,” Wendy shot back.
“50 million? You actually think that highly of me?” Nancy replied with a half–smile.
Wendy sneered triumphantly. “I know you don’t have that kind of money, but the person backing you does. If you don’t pay up, your entire company will suffer, and the losses will be far greater than 50 million.”
“You’ve really thought this through, haven’t you?” Nancy chuckled.
Wendy frowned. How could Nancy still be smiling now? She tapped the table impatiently. “So, are you going to pay or not?”
“Sorry, I don’t have the money,” Nancy said bluntly.
Wendy’s expression darkened. “Nancy, you’re really that cheap? Fine! Just wait. I’ll watch your company go bankrupt!”
She stood up to leave, but Nancy suddenly rose and grabbed a tissue, wiping Wendy’s face.
“Ah! What are you doing?” Wendy exclaimed, panic rising in her voice.
Nancy glanced at her calmly. “Wendy, your allergic reaction is so unique. This can be wiped right off with just a tissue.”
The sarcasm in Nancy’s words made Wendy’s face turn pale. Nancy was prepared for this.
Wendy shot her a glare. “So what, Nancy? The public only believes what they see. I suggest you pay me my 50 million, or I’ll ruin your Duran Skincare brand.”
