Chapter 35 The Past
Raine’s eyes were glistening as she stared at Alex, her dress slipping just enough to reveal one shoulder.
Most men would have lost their composure, but Raine’s words kept flooding Alex’s mind. Was Nancy really that kind of person? He couldn’t tell at all.
Seeing that Alex was deep in thought, Raine almost lost it, a wave of anxiety overtaking her at once. She absolutely couldn’t let Alex discover Nancy’s true identity. Alex belonged to her, and she would surely be his wife.
“Alex, you must be tired. Let’s go to bed early.” Raine tugged him toward the edge of the bed, but he instinctively pulled his hand away. “Raine, you should get some rest first.”
“Alex, you don’t want to sleep with me? I’m so scared of being here alone,” Raine said in a pitiful
Voice.
“We’re not engaged yet. If we slept together, it might ruin your reputation if this got out,” Alex explained gently.
Raine was so furious that she could’ve spat blood.
Alex comforted her briefly before leaving.
Raine immediately called Regina. “Mom, have you had any luck finding me a dance teacher?”
“I was just about to tell you! Guess who I found?” Regina replied.
Raine’s eyes widened. “Is it Mr. Warner?”
“No, it’s Nanette!” Regina revealed.
In that moment, Raine’s mind went completely blank, as if a firework had just exploded inside her. “Y–You’re kidding, right?” she stammered.
“Why would I lie to you? It’s Nanette! Raine, this time, first place is in the bag! I’ll take you to meet her as soon as you get back tomorrow!” Regina was practically bursting with excitement.
“Great, Mom‘ Please get my clothes ready. Oh my God, I actually get to learn from Nanette! Once I win first place at the National Dance Competition, Alex will have no choice but to propose!”
The Ladell and Fuller families were worlds apart
Although Alex had feelings for her, his mother had always looked down on her.
But with the title of national dance champion, his mother wouldn’t be able to say a word against
her
Raine’s heart raced Outside, it started drizzling She gazed at the gloomy sky, her eyes burning with determination to win
Meanwhile, Nancy and Gideon paused when a sudden drizzle began to fall

Without hesitation, Gideon took off his suit jacket and draped it over both of them. “I think we
should head back.”
“Okay.”
He walked Nancy back to her room. She stood under the eaves, the building’s light revealing one side of his shoulder that was completely soaked. Before she could say anything, he was already
gone.
Watching his retreating figure, she felt a myriad of emotions welling up inside her.
After taking a shower, Nancy was’lounging on the couch when she got a call from Hillary.
“That idiot Skylar Gibson must be throwing another tantrum. He came to the set, and now everyone’s refusing to talk to me,” Hillary fumed.
“Maybe it’s because you’ve been getting a little too close to the male lead lately?”
“That’s probably it. That bastard just can’t stand it when I have male friends!” Hillary complained bitterly.
Nancy pointed out. “But he doesn’t mind you hanging out with me. Why does he only care when it’s a guy?”
“Oh, I know why!”
Nancy waited, but the next second, Hillary blurted, “He’s doing it on purpose! He wants me to be lonely forever! I knew it! He’s pure evil!”
Nancy felt like she was about to have a heart attack.
“Enough about me and Skylar. How are things between you and Gideon?” Hillary asked eagerly, clearly fishing for gossip.

“I ran into him at the resort today. It turns out that it’s his birthday,” Nancy replied.
“Oh my God! Then he must be in a terrible mood,” Hillary gasped.
“Why would you say that?” Nancy asked.
Hillary explained, “You probably don’t know. I only heard it from Skylar. Gideon’s parents had him when they were pretty old, and his mom died on the very day he was born. He’s never celebrated a birthday since ”
