Chapter 220 Not For HerÂ
Raine smiled. “Aunt Emma, don’t mention it. We’ve all had a rough time getting here. Let’s eat.”Â
They thus filed into the private room at the hotel’s restaurant. A lavish spread filled the round table, steam wafting up in waves of rich aroma.Â
The Lidells had been around wealth in Riversdale, but the sheer splendor here still stunned them.Â
“Is this… a 1982 Lafite?” Fergus lifted the bottle and whistled.Â
“Wow! Alex sure is generous!” he exclaimed, but a strange feeling in his chest lingered.Â
Regina laughed. “Raine’s beautiful and classy. If Alex wants to be with her, of course he should be generous! Otherwise, someone else might steal her away!”Â
Raine flushed. “Mom, that’s not going to happen.”Â
“I’m just speaking from Alex’s point of view. Raine, Alex must really be head over heels for you. Then again, who wouldn’t? You’re worth it!” Regina said with a smile, brimming with pride as she looked at Raine, then let her gaze skim Nancy.Â
“Not like some people’s boyfriends. We went all the way to Boraska, but he couldn’t even come see us.Â

“Mom, don’t say that,” Raine said. “Maybe Nancy’s boyfriend just didn’t know.”Â
“Well, Alex didn’t need anyone to tell him. If her boyfriend didn’t know, then he just doesn’t care!” Regina shot back.Â
She turned to Nancy, voice heavy as she advised, “Don’t fool yourself into thinking that being capable is enough. In the end, a woman needs a man who treats her right. Raine has that with Alex.Â
You should learn from her.”Â
“Sorry. I don’t need that,” Nancy said indifferently.Â
Regina’s face twisted in annoyance. “I’m saying this for your own good!”Â
“Then say it to Raine instead.” Nancy didn’t back down.Â
Regina’s temper only flared as a result. Nancy was as stubborn as ever.Â
“Fine. In that case, boyfriend.”Â

Martha’s expression darkened, her voice dropping low and stern. “Watch your tone with Nancy!”Â
“Martha, am I wrong?” Regina shot back, braver with Raine backing her. “If she looks down on the food, then why eat it? You can’t have it both ways.”Â

Raine jumped in to smooth things over. “Nancy, come on. Just apologize to Mom! She’s only thinking of you!”Â
“Apologize?” Regina scoffed. “She’s too proud for that. Asking her to say sorry is like asking for her life!”Â
Raine sighed dramatically and looked at Nancy. “Nancy… There’s nothing I can do. Why rile Mom up? I don’t want this either, but you might have to grab dinner somewhere else.”Â
Satisfaction flickered in her eyes. Just as Regina had said, she was going to marry Alex. In Boraska, she could do whatever she wanted, while Nancy could do nothing but watch in envy.Â
Nancy let her gaze pass over them, then rose to her feet.Â
The manager stepped in just then. He spotted Nancy and brightened with deference. “Ms. Moore, are you satisfied with today’s meal?”Â
“You’re asking the wrong person.” Nancy tipped her chin toward Raine. “She’s today’s main guest.”Â
The manager frowned. “And she is?”Â
Raine bristled. What kind of manager didn’t even recognize her?Â
“I’m Raine Lidell, Alex Fuller’s girlfriend,” she said proudly.Â
“I see.” The manager barely reacted. He turned back to Nancy. “Ms. Moore, what do you mean by that? Why would Mr. Fuller’s girlfriend be the main guest?”Â
“Weren’t today’s dishes prepared for her?” Nancy asked, genuinely puzzled.Â
TheÂ
manager smacked his forehead in realization. “I apologize. I should’ve made things clearer. The meal today was arranged to welcome you!Â
“That said, we didn’t expect you to bring such a big group. We only reserved two rooms for you. Would you like us to prepare a few more?”Â
