Jordan scratched the back of his head sheepishly. “So, Nancy, when will you have time to come to practice?” 

“Not for a while, I’m afraid. I have to be with Grandma for her surgery.” 

“That’s fine. I’ll wait for you.” 

They chatted a bit longer before parting ways.

The next day, Nancy went to the hospital, where Raine and the rest of the Lidell family members were already present. 

Everyone more or less knew why Martha had gathered them there. There was a ripple of expectation in their eyes. 

Martha looked in pretty good spirits. When she saw Nancy, she beckoned her over to sit at her 

bedside. Then, she turned to face everyone else. 

“The reason I gathered you all here today is probably no secret to you. I’m getting old now, and I’m not as strong as I used to be. It’s time to hand the group over to the younger generation.” 

“Mom, we get it. Just name the successor. We’ll do our best to support them,” Edward said. 

Raine’s eyes shone with anticipation. It was the day she had been waiting for. 

Once she inherited Lidell Group, she was going to put everyone in the family in their place. 

Martha’s gaze swept over the room before coming to rest on Nancy. “I announce that the new successor of Lidell Group is… Nancy.” 

Raine’s excited expression stiffened in an instant. 

Nancy? 

It was Nancy? 

Why? 

Was Martha out of her mind? 

The rest of the family looked just as shocked. 

Everyone had assumed that since Martha valued her life, she would give the company to Raine—the only one who could supposedly save her life. 

“Mom, why?” Edward asked in disbelief. “Only Raine can treat your illness. What would happen to 

you if you gave 

the group to Nancy?”

Her gaze turned icy, but a mocking smile tugged at her lips. “Well, since this is Grandma’s decision, we’ll respect it. I just hope Grandma enjoys the time she has left since Dr. Gales is leaving for 

overseas training tomorrow. He won’t be back for at least six months.” 

“Regina! Dr. Gales is leaving. There’s no one else who can perform the surgery on you. Please, beg Raine to make him stay. What are we going to do if you die?” Regina paled. 

Raine walked toward the door as she said, “Grandma’s made up her mind. I doubt she’ll change it just because of me.” 

She stepped into the hallway, silently counting in her head. 

One… Two… 

She was certain that before she reached five, Martha would call for her. After all, no one truly wanted to die–especially not someone like her. 

But by the time she reached the elevator, nobody had stopped her. 

Raine widened her eyes in disbelief. It was impossible. Perhaps she had just walked too far to hear anyone calling for her? 

With that, she decisively turned around and headed back toward the room. 

The moment she stepped inside, she heard Nancy’s voice. 

“Grandma’s illness is something I can treat. I’ll be taking her to Boraska for surgery tomorrow.” 

Raine finally understood what had happened. 

So that was why Martha named Nancy the successor. Nancy had tricked her! 

Raine strode forward, her tone sharp with derision as she said, “Nancy, do you even have a conscience? You deceived Grandma into thinking you could treat her illness so that she’d make you the successor. You don’t care what happens to her since the company belongs to you anyway.” 

“Is that so?” Regina yelled, “Nancy, how could you do this to your grandmother? Hand the successorship back to Raine right now!”
