Chapter 206 Nancy Wants to Join the RaceÂ
Nancy pieced things together and rose to her feet.Â
“Ms. Moore, what are you doing?” Christopher blurted. “You really shouldn’t get mixed up in their mess!”Â
Jordan was trembling with fury at the Riversdale team members‘ shamelessness.Â
A short man standing beside Fergus sneered. “If you’ve got a problem with it, why don’t we settle it on the track? There’s a solo race coming up. If you can beat me, Fergus will go back to your team. But if you lose, then your trash team had better stop harassing us.”Â
Jordan clenched his fists.Â
Fergus only shot him a scornful look. “What’s wrong, Jordan? Scared?”Â
“If you don’t even have the guts to accept Bob’s challenge, how do you expect to win Fergus back?”Â
“The Murrays should’ve retired a long time ago.Â
The taunts grew louder.Â
184Â
The Murrays‘ crew members grew red with anger. They tugged on Jordan’s arm. “Forget it, captain. Let’s go. We don’t need a traitor like him anyway.Â
“I’ll race you,” Jordan said suddenly.Â
The crowd froze.Â
The Murrays‘ crew members looked stricken. Even Fergus himself was surprised.Â
Jordan was a great racer, but everyone knew he had injured his hand a month ago. His performanceÂ
had tanked since then.Â
A racer’s hands were their life. Without them steady on the wheel, one slip could mean death.Â
His team members rushed to dissuade him.Â
“Captain, please don’t!”Â
“You can’t stake your life on this!”Â
“We’ll find another way to win without Fergus!”Â
Fergus frowned. “Are you sure, Jordan?”Â
“I am.” Jordan’s gaze hardened.Â
“Fine. Then, let’s see how this plays out.” Fergus leaned back with an amused look on his face.Â
Just then, a clear female voice cut in. “Can I join this race, too?”Â
Heads turned.Â
Fergus blinked when he saw the familiar face. Nancy? What was she doing here?Â
A woman like her couldn’t possibly be a racer. The only explanation Fergus had for her appearance was that she must have followed him here. She’d likely realized how outstanding he was and wanted to make up with him but couldn’t bring herself to say it.Â
Fergus smirked. If Nancy wanted an excuse to get close to him, he would give her one. After all, if he couldn’t keep Nancy in his orbit, how else would he be able to get to Yelena?Â
“Don’t be ridiculous, Nancy. Racing is dangerous,” he said lightly. “Let’s just sit and watch.”Â
Nancy’s eyes shifted to Jordan. “Why can’t I join?”Â
Jordan met her gaze, and for reasons he couldn’t explain, felt a strange sense of warmth.” Technically, you could. Tonight’s just a friendly race, so anyone can sign up. But… do you even knowÂ
how to drive a racecar?”Â
“A little,” Nancy said, tilting her head. “So, where do I sign up?”Â
“Over there,” Jordan replied.Â
And just like that, he watched her walk off.Â
Fergus noticed the way he looked at Nancy. His lips curled into a sneer. “Jordan, keep your eyes in check. That’s my sister. She’d never look twice at you.”Â
Jordan shot him a cold glance and walked away.Â
Later, Nancy entered the lounge area. “Captain, I don’t have a car. Could I borrow one from yourÂ
team?”Â
Everyone was rendered speechless.Â
“Was your name Nancy Moore?” Jordan asked. “Ms. Moore, you really shouldn’t do this. Racing is dangerous. One wrong move, and you could lose your life.”Â
Another team member chimed in, “Exactly! Besides, you’re Fergus‘ sister. Why come to us for a car? Don’t tell me your brother’s too broke to have one of his own?” In that split second, Bob caught up and sped past him.
