Chapter 19 Why Did You Pick Me

“Are you sure? My company is pretty small. Wouldn’t your talent be wasted here?” Nancy asked.
“I don’t care. I’ll still be your spokesperson even if it’s an unknown company. How can I let others bully you? Let’s sign the contract already,” Hillary urged firmly.
Nancy chuckled. “Okay. Thanks a lot.”
“But it’ll probably take a few days for the filming to wrap up. There are a few things that still need to be settled,” Hillary said.
“Don’t worry about it. It’s not urgent,” Nancy replied.
In no time, the two came to an agreement. Nancy sent the contract over as soon as she had prepared it.
The next day, Nancy bumped into a familiar figure on a call as she was heading out. Seeing her, Gideon mouthed the words, “Do you want a ride?”
Nancy pursed her lips gently, recalling Ian’s warning. While she pondered whether to turn the offer down, Gideon ended the call and said, “Your dad and I are business competitors. But between us, it’s purely personal.
“You’re not going to let a business rivalry influence your opinion of me, are you?”
“I’m curious as to why you picked me to be your friend?” Nancy was desperate to know.
Gideon smirked and said, “You’re talented and beautiful. Anyone would want to befriend someone like that.
“Between us, we can only be either friends or enemies–nothing in between. Don’t tell me you want us to be enemies.”
Nancy fell silent for a moment before prompting,
Let’s
go.”
Gideon was right. With their identities, they were better off as friends rather than enemies.
Nancy arrived at the office on time. The first thing on her agenda was a meeting. The only difference was that Rebecca was already in the conference
room.
The second Nancy took her seat, Rebecca complained, “Ms. the new product, and now we only have half the number.”
“That’s right. Why did you dismiss Ms. Lidell as our spokesperson? She’s the one we carefully handpicked.”
oore, everyone on the internet is attacking us because of you. We had so many orders for
Nancy scanned them with a cold gaze. “And you guys ended up handpicking
I someone like Raine? She’ll make the company pay for her mistakes one day.”
“Ms. Moore, what do we do now? Everyone on the internet is attacking
Rebecca’s supporters took turns to voice their concerns.
- us.
”
Rebecca scoffed, “You’re just jealous of her. Raine might not be an idol, but she has more followers than the famous stars.
“If you don’t want her, then you should look for a better spokesperson. The thing is, no one wants to endorse our products now. They’re all afraid of ofíending the Lidell family.”
When Rebecca finished speaking, many employees cast Nancy bitter looks. After all, their salaries were tied to their performance, and Nancy’s actions had caused them significant losses.
“A better spokesperson? I found one already. The company will announce it soon.
Rebecca stared hard at Nancy. “Oh? Who is it? Why didn’t you tell us sooner? I doubt your new spokesperson would be stay in a company like this.”
With that, Rebecca threw her employee tag on the table.
as
good as Raine. That’s it. I can’t
“I’m quitting, too,” the other employees behind Rebecca uttered the same thing and removed their employee tags. They had all conspired with Rebecca to pressure Nancy.
Now that things had gotten so serious, the management would surely look into it. Then, Nancy would definitely be fired. “In that case, I shall not make you stay. Is anyone else quitting?” Nancy crossed her arms and scanned the crowd.
