Chapter 162 Why Did He Not Answer 

“I’ll talk to Dr. Gales about it. It shouldn’t be a problem.” Raine’s tone carried a faint air of 

superiority. 

“Great.” The doctor left buzzing with excitement. 

Regina looked at Raine with glowing pride. “Raine, Dr. Gales clearly values you a lot since he called the hospital that quickly.” 

“I didn’t expect him to act so fast either,” Raine replied modestly. Her eyes betrayed her smugness. 

Regina’s chest swelled with pride, but when her gaze shifted to Nancy, her expression hardened. ” Nancy, look at Raine. She may not be our blood, but she cares so much for this family. 

“Your father and I have already decided that if you won’t apologize to Howard, then we’ll only be holding the birthday party for Raine next week.” 

Her words sounded like a threat. 

Nancy had only just returned. Surely, she cared about the family dinner. However, Regina believed that disobedience shouldn’t be rewarded. 

Nancy’s mouth twitched. After a pause, she asked, “And how do you know Dr. Gales called because of Raine?” 

“Do you think it was because of you? What a joke! You’d never get near someone like Dr. Gales.” Fergus snorted. 

“Fine, think whatever you want. I couldn’t care less about the dinner.” She turned and walked away 

with Hillary. 

Regina stared at her retreating in shock. Did Nancy really not care at all? Didn’t she want to be recognised as one of the Lidells and have the rightful title of their daughter? 

Fergus leaned closer. “Mom, don’t waste your time. She’s just pretending. She’s probably crushed inside. She’ll come begging to include her on the day of the dinner.” 

Regina nodded. She believed she had a soft spot for her children. If Nancy did beg her, Regina might just give her another chance. 

At Martha’s ward, Hillary set down a basket of fruit. She had a way of winning people over, and in no time, she and Matha were chatting happily. 

Nancy sat beside them, peeling an apple. A small smile tugged at her lips as she listened. 

Then Martha asked, “Nancy, your birthday’s next week. Have you bought a dress for the dinner?”

Hillary opened her mouth, ready to expose Regina’s nastiness, but Nancy stopped her. She didn’t want to add to Martha’s worries. 

“Yeah. I already bought one, Grandma,” Nancy replied lightly. 

“Good. I’ll be in attendance, too,” Martha said warmly. “Finally, everyone will know who you are.” 

Nancy smiled. “It’s just a birthday. You’re not in the best health. It’s better not to tire yourself out, okay?” 

“No, I’m not that far gone yet.” 

“But Dr. Gales said you need to rest. If your numbers don’t hold, you won’t even qualify for surgery.” 

The moment Nancy mentioned Benny, Martha’s protests stopped. 

“I’ll show you plenty of pictures after,” Nancy promised. 

“Alright, then,” Martha relented. 

Once outside, Hillary frowned. “Nance, why didn’t you tell her how cruel your mom was?” 

“There’s no point,” Nancy said calmly. “She can’t handle the added stress. Besides, I don’t care about some family dinner.” 

Busy days flew by quickly. 

Nancy finally carved out some time and texted Gideon, asking him to grab dinner with her. 

But she didn’t receive a reply to the message for quite some time. She wondered what he was doing.
