Nancy replied, “So there’s nothing between you two?” 

“Of course not. I’m focused on filming your drama. I’m not in the mood for dating” 

Strangely, the rumor vanished not long after that. 

But netizens had already seen the news. Hillary’s popularity was peaking. A scandal that vanished quickly as it had appeared was as good as confirmation to the public. Soon, most people were convinced she was dating someone. 

By the time Nancy checked online again, the chatter had reached its peak. 

“Hillary’s dating someone? No wonder she’s slacking on set. It makes sense that Natalie dropped her.

“Dropped her? Hillary was the one who didn’t want to work with Natalie anymore. Get your facts straight.” 

“Either way, this is the worst possible time to be in a relationship.” 

“I guess Hillary already gave up on that bet between them. They’re doomed to lose. She’s not taking it seriously at all.” 

Nancy’s gaze went cold. She checked the time, then headed straight to the set. 

Hillary had just wrapped up her last scene of the day when she spotted Nancy. Her face lit up. ” Nance, you came.” 

“Yeah. How are you holding up?” 

“I’m fine. You’re worried about the rumors, right? Don’t be. They can’t touch me.” Hillary grinned. 

Nancy finally felt a little at ease at the sight of her smile. Then, a male voice cut in from behind.” Hillary.” 

They turned simultaneously. It was the man from the rumor. 

Hillary frowned. “Hanson? What are you doing here?” 

“I saw the headlines,” Handon Jewelton said with a sigh. “I’m really sorry. I didn’t think would twist things like that. Are you alright?” 

“I’m fine. The truth speaks for itself.”

“Good. Still, I feel bad. Let me make it up to you two with dinner. Are you two free tonight?” 

“No way.” Hillary was rendered speechless. “The whole world’s watching us right now. You want us to grab a meal together and give them even more to talk about?” 

Hillary grabbed Nancy’s hand and got into the car. “Come on, Nance. Let’s go.” 

Through the window, Nancy saw Hanson staring at them until they drove off into the distance. Something about it unsettled her. “Don’t you think Hanson’s acting a little strange?” 

“Yeah, kind of. But I don’t really know him, and I’ll be keeping my distance from now on,” Hillary said firmly. 

“Good.” 

Over dinner, Hillary learned about Martha’s situation and immediately offered to visit her with 

Nancy. 

At Northern Hospital, they walked down the hallway and ran straight into three familiar figures. 

Hillary had a mask on, so no one recognized the rising star. 

Regina fixed her eyes on Nancy. “Nancy, when are you going to apologize to Jasper?” 

“What exactly did I do wrong?” Nancy’s voice was icy. “Was it wrong to say I already had a boyfriend instead of lying that I didn’t?” 

Her unyielding stare made Regina’s chest tighten. 

“How can you talk to Mom like that, Nancy?” Raine chimed in. “Sure, the Lidells might have lost you, but it also means you haven’t been around all these years to fulfill your duties as a daughter.” Hillary was furious. “Are all you Lidells brain–damaged, or is it only true for the ones I’ve met? You lost Nancy to begin with. Not only do you feel no guilt, but you’re actually blaming her for not serving your family?” 

She tapped her phone. “Want me to record this and post it online? Let’s see what the public thinks about your logic.” 

Their faces paled. 

“So you do know how ridiculous you sound. Then why say all that at all?” Hillary chuckled. “Oh, wait. That’s because your only goal is to guilt–trip Nancy, isn’t it? What a shameless bunch.” 

Fergus opened his mouth to argue, but just then, a group of doctors hurried down the hall. 

One of them was Martha’s attending physician. He lit up when he saw them. “Dr. Gales called us. The hospital has set up a special team just to look into Martha’s illness.” 

Fergus‘ face broke into a smile. He turned to Raine. “Raine, you did it!”

Raine froze. She hadn’t even spoken to Alex yet. How did Benny already know to call them? 

She thought perhaps Benny had been watching out for her on his own. 

The thought made her giddy. She knew she was irresistible! Even a respected doctor was going out of his way for her. 

“My mentor works fast,” Raine said with a proud smile. “Thank you all for your hard work.” 

The doctor eagerly replied, “It’s no trouble at all. Ms. Liddell, if Dr. Gales does come to perform the surgery, could you let me assist him?”
