For some reason, Nancy felt a pang of sadness. She grew increasingly restless. 

From Gideon’s perspective, her behavior must have seemed confusing. One day, they were friends, and the next, she was keeping her distance. 

If she were in his shoes, she would likely be frustrated, too. 

Nancy closed her eyes and dialed Gideon’s number. As soon as the call connected, the soft piano music stopped. 

“What’s wrong?” His voice was calm, but it couldn’t hide the disappointment he was still 

feeling. 

Nancy gripped her phone tightly, her voice slow and deliberate. “I have something to tell you.” 

“Alright…” 

Sitting by the piano, Gideon could almost guess what she was about to say. 

She liked Johnny so much that she was willing to keep her distance from Gideon, and the thought hit him like a dagger to the heart, twisting painfully and leaving him raw with ache. 

He couldn’t help but say, “Enough. Don’t say anything more. I’ll respect your choice and keep my distance-” 

“Gideon, I think I’ve fallen for you.” 

The world suddenly fell silent. The sunset painted the sky in brilliant shades of orange, and a gentle breeze brushed against Gideon’s face. 

Even the blaring horns and chaotic traffic on the streets below seemed to blend into a symphony around him. 

As the city lights flickered on, Gideon realized for the first time how beautiful Riversdale really was. 

His Adam’s apple bobbed as he swallowed hard. 

On the other end of the line, Nancy didn’t hear his response right away, and her heart sank. 

As expected, Gideon would likely resent someone who liked him. Still, she understood that no one liked being chased by someone they didn’t have feelings for. 

“Don’t worry,” Nancy said, her voice soft. “I won’t make things difficult for you, and I won’t

“I’m not worried about that.” Gideon cut her off immediately. 

His voice was slightly strained, almost breathless. “When… did you start liking me?” 

“I don’t know…” Nancy admitted. 

Their lives had slowly intertwined, like two separate streams merging. And before Nancy 

realized it, Gideon’s presence had come to fill her entire world. 

“Okay… I understand.” Gideon hung up immediately after.

Nancy felt an emptiness in her chest, waves of sadness washing over her. She collapsed onto the couch and opened her laptop. 

She thus threw herself into work. It had always been her way to numb herself. 

The doorbell rang suddenly. 

Nancy frowned and went to open the door, only to find Gideon standing there. 

But just as she was about to speak, he swept her into a sudden, tight embrace, his commanding presence and intoxicating scent enveloping her. 

Nancy’s eyes widened in surprise. “What… What are you doing?” she asked, frowning. 

Gideon held her tightly. It was as if he wanted to merge her into himself. Nancy winced from the intensity and couldn’t help pushing him lightly. 

Only then did Gideon come back to himself, releasing her, though the smile in his eyes was impossible to hide. 

“Nancy, I’m glad you like me.” 

His eyes lit up, and his voice took on a husky, rough edge. “Will you give me a chance to be with you?” 

“You… Are you sure? Don’t you already like someone else?” Nancy stared at him in disbelief. 

“The person I like is actually…” 

Gideon’s words suddenly trailed off. 

“Who is it?” Nancy asked. 

“You’ll find out soon enough,” he said gently, looking straight at her. His long, elegant 

fingers brushed her cheek. “The person I like now… is you.”

Nancy blinked in surprise. “Really?” 

“Of course, Nancy.” Gideon reached into the inner pocket of his suit and pulled out a 

document. 

Then, without warning, he dropped to one knee. “Will you be with me?” 

Nancy took the document and opened it, her eyes widening instantly. 

It was a contract. 

If they were to get together, half of all the assets under Gideon’s name would legally be hers. 

She quickly closed the document and handed it back to him. “Are you joking? Something this valuable… How could I possibly accept it?” 

“You’re my girlfriend. What’s mine is naturally yours,” Gideon said seriously, his mature, steady face completely earnest. 

“I know you still have doubts about me, but I promise that if we’re together, I’ll find a way to get your father to accept me.” 

She was surprised to learn that Gideon had thought of that. A warmth spread through Nancy’s 

chest. 

“Alright. We can give this a try, but… this contract isn’t necessary.” 

“No, it is,” Gideon said firmly. “Since you don’t want it, does that mean you’re not serious about being with me?” 

His eyes showed a hint of hurt. “You’re not just playing with me, are you?” 

“Of course not.” Nancy sighed, rubbing her temple in exasperation. 

Seeing him act so seriously, she couldn’t help but ask, “But… you don’t still like the person you liked before, do you?”
