Chapter 8
Our last day in London, we visited a church.
After leaving. Thaddeus slipped a prayer bracelet onto my wrist.]
“May it bless you with a smooth life.“]
I smiled. “Thank you.“]
Lune this year’s been wonderful, having you here.“]
“Me too. Meeting you was the second luckiest thing in my life.”]
“What’s first?”
“Meeting your grandfather.“]
He laughed silently.
Mom waited for us in the car.]
Happiness turned out to be this simple.
I still had to pay the Moraleses ten grand monthly.[]
I’d proposed this to Vincent myself back in high school.
He’d raised an eyebrow, patted my shoulder.
“Ten thousand’s nothing to me. I believe it won’t be to you either, someday.“]
“Young lady, I like your spirit.”
Now my skills were advancing rapidly.[]
Design awards from England were countless.[]
Ten grand monthly really wasn’t hard anymore.]
But I still owed the Moraleses so much more.
I told Thaddeus, “Give me a few more years.”
He ruffled my hair. “No rush. I’ll be here.“[]
Back at school, ran into Sophia first.
She looked at me warily. “What are you doing back?”
I stepped closer.
She wore her plainest clothes.
Backed away step by step. “I’ve paid what I owed! Isn’t that enough?”
I frowned, grabbed her arm.
Burn scars covered it.[]
Identical to the ones on my hand.
She screamed, “Don’t touch me!”
Shook me off and hurried away.]]
Camden had switched majors.
Heard he was busy fighting for Foster Industries.
His father died in a car accident recently.[]
Classmates swarmed me when I returned.]]
“Luna, I saw your Red Dot Award piece–amazing!“||
“How was London?”
“We all misunderstood about that accident. Camden clarified later that your dad wasn’t drunk driving.“]
One guy said, “Luna, I’m sorry about those crude jokes back
then.
He seemed sincere.
I stepped back. “I don’t forgive you.”
As I walked away, their chatter continued.
But I didn’t care.
