Chapter 10
“Don’t be afraid, sweeties. I just hired some very experienced tutors to help Darry with his … studies. That’s all.”
She then stroked Elton’s head, her smile widening into something less gentle. “Elty, if you don’t behave, I’ll hire some tutors for you, too.”
Elton, the sweet, innocent ten–year–old, was so frightened that he immediately scrambled off and ran back to his room to hide.
Utterly worried, Norma approached Cordelia. “Mrs. Beasley, are you quite sure this is the right way to handle Mr. Darrell?”
“Of course,” Cordelia replied without a hint of doubt.
Then she turned to Declan, who was behind her, the smile on her face remaining the same. “Declan? What do you think?”
Suddenly put on the spot, Declan was caught completely off guard.
He wiped a bead of sweat from his forehead, feigning calm.
Then, without a word, he simply turned and walked away.
The entire afternoon passed to the soundtrack of Darrell’s howls of misery.
Cordelia, however, acted casually, as if she hadn’t heard anything.
Everyone in the villa was whispering the same thing–she was ruining her own son.
When she caught wind of this, she simply rolled her eyes.
“Give me a break. What do you know? I’m just guiding him back onto the right track.”
At first, Darrell hadn’t fully grasped the meaning of “personal bodyguards“.
Then he realized he wasn’t allowed to take a single step out of his room. Furious, he threw a punch aimed directly at the nearest bald man’s face.
Though he’d never had formal training, years of street fights had honed his instincts.
His fists were fast, too fast for most people to dodge,
Yet, in the next second, a powerful hand caught his arm, and he was thrown effortlessly over a broad shoulder.
He landed hard on the floor with a dull thud, and a sharp, breathtaking pain shot through his entire body, forcing in- voluntary tears to his eyes.

It took him several minutes just to breathe normally again. Rage flared up, and he pointed at their noses, snapping, “Who the fuck are you? Why are you in my room? I don’t need any bodyguards! Get the fuck out!”
Yet, the polite smiles on the ten bodyguards‘ faces didn’t falter at all.
“Mr. Darrell, Ms. Fernandez hired us to protect you,” one of them said.
“According to her requests, you’re not allowed to take a step out of your room during your suspension. But other than that, you can do whatever you want.
“Except, of course, for fighting.”
Darrell saw red, and he had an urge to hurl all ten of them out of his window.
Only now did he understand what Cordelia had meant by “guides you properly“.
But he was never one to admit defeat.
He said, “Is that what my mom said? I can do anything I want as long as I stay in my room?”
The bodyguards nodded.
He coldly snorted and sat astride on the computer desk defiantly, “So, I assume you have no objections to me smok- ing and gaming?”
“Of course.”
One of them even handed him a pack of cigarettes.
He took it, a flicker of defiant determination in his eyes.
Surely, if he smoked nonstop, they’d rush over to stop him.
He lit a cigarette with a sharp click of the lighter.
Then, he blew a perfect smoke ring in front of the bodyguards, flashing a triumphant, provocative smile.
They remained standing in a circle, their expressions not changing at all.
Under their impassive gazes, Darrell finished one cigarette after another.
After he had smoked nearly a full pack, his lungs finally rebelled. He doubled over, consumed by a violent, wracking cough.
The bodyguards seemed to have anticipated this.
One of them stepped forward, offering a glass of water with infuriating consideration.
Though he wanted to refuse, his body betrayed him. His hand shot out and grabbed the glass at once.

Chapter 10
After gulping down the water, he was overwhelmed by a great sense of humiliation.
No way. He would not be defeated!
To salvage his pride, he stubbornly lit another cigarette, then another.
Soon, the room was so thick with hazy smoke that the figures of the ten bodyguards faded into silhouettes.
Finally, he cracked. He tossed the cigarette aside and let out a miserable wail.
“Fuck! This brand is disgusting! I’m done! I can’t endure it anymore!”
The ten bodyguards immediately broke into grins, looking genuinely thrilled for him.
“Amazing! Mr. Darrell, good for you!” they burst into synchronized applause and exclaimed in unison.
Fighting the urge to scream, Darrell spun around and booted up his computer.
Maybe he couldn’t keep smoking all the time.
But playing video games? That was a completely different matter.
When it came to games, he could go on forever, and surely, those damned bald guys would surrender!
However, he was too naive.
