Chapter 70
When the meeting ended, Zachary brushed his neck and stood up.
Zachary, Evelyn, and Joshua all walked into the elevator together and went upstairs.
Julia Young, who had originally been an intern, was assigned to assist Evelyn and followed
after them.
The design department was abuzz. Even a manager like Evelyn could have an assistant now.
Soon, rumors began to spread that Evelyn and Zachary had once been a couple.
Some said their romance had reignited. Others claimed Zachary was madly in love with her and had transferred her from the branch office to headquarters.
There were also whispers that Evelyn had been vain. When Zachary injured his leg, she had decisively left to study abroad, and the two had gone their separate ways.
Now that Zachary had become successful, she had returned.
“Do you think Mr. Jones is falling in love again?” Lilian asked, pulling her chair closer and sneaking a glance at the manager’s office.
Jessica didn’t respond.
Zachary hadn’t returned home for over half a month. Jessica couldn’t help but wonder if the real reason he brought Evelyn to headquarters was to push her aside.
“Hey, say something,” Lilian said, noticing Jessica’s unusual silence.
“I was just thinking… Since Mr. Jones sat in my chair, maybe I should take my pink seat cushion home and treat it like a prized keepsake,” Jessica replied, forcing a smile.
Lilian laughed out loud,
Jessica glanced at her phone, but there was still no message from Zachary. Everyone in the group chat was teasing him, and she wondered if he might be angry.
Zachary’s moods were impossible to predict. He often swung from being warm to being
distant,
She texted Joshua, “What’s Mr. Jones been up to lately?”
He replied, “Working overtime.”
“Talk like a normal person,” Jessica shot back.
Joshua sent a crying emoji and added, “I’m serious. He’s working overtime, even on weekends.

“Does Mr. Jones live on the prairie, too? Doesn’t look like it,” she murmured.
“We’re working to keep the company from collapsing, and he’s working so we don’t lose o jobs,” Lilian said with a smirk. “We’re all like beasts of burden. It wouldn’t surprise me if really did live on the prairie.”
Lilian returned from the break room and raised an eyebrow. “Why are you even asking?”
“I want to tempt Mr. Jones,” Jessica said, smiling mischievously.
The very idea of tempting him painted a naughty, flirty picture in her head.
Their laughter echoed across the desks as they clinked their coffee cups together and took small sips.
Suddenly, Joshua coughed from behind them, making Jessica and Lilian spin their chairs around in surprise.
Zachary and Evelyn were calmly walking toward them.
Joshua winked at her, signaling that everyone had heard what she’d said. Evelyn’s face darkened with fury as she clenched her teeth, while Zachary looked stunned, and his usual shadowy expression gradually softened.
Everyone couldn’t help but wonder what was going on today. Zachary had spent more time in the design department this morning than he usually did in an entire month.
Even though they often teased him, no one had ever been caught like this before. Everyone stayed quiet, pretending as if nothing had happened.
Joshua quickly led the group into the manager’s office and closed the door.
“Mr. Jones heard you say you were going to tempt him,” Lilian said, adding fuel to the fire.
“I know,” Jessica replied,
“I can feel Ms. Sutton’s murderous glare. Trust me, after Mr. Jones leaves, the first person to step into her office will probably be you,” Lilian warned.
“Really? I doubt it…” Jessica said, forcing a bitter smile.
After running into Evelyn at Fashion Week, she had thought their paths wouldn’t cross again, but she now realized that Evelyn was at Zachary’s branch.
Sure enough, Evelyn called Jessica into the office after Joshua and Zachary left.
“Lilian, you’re a genius!” Jessica said with a helpless laugh.
“Good luck, Ms. Lockman,” Lilian said, patting her shoulder.
