Chapter 69
1/3
On Friday, two managers from the branch office came over. One was Lucas Carrington from the PR department, and the other was Evelyn from the design department.
Zachary personally went downstairs to greet them.
It was the first time anyone had seen Zachary in the past two weeks. He was still dressed in his
all–black suit, giving off an air that was impossible to read.
“Ms. Sutton, your office is over here,” Joshua said as he led the way.
Evelyn followed closely behind, while Zachary trailed after them with what looked like
exhaustion on his face.
When Joshua stopped outside her new office, Evelyn stepped inside and took a look around.
Meanwhile, Zachary stopped at Jessica’s desk and toyed with the things on it.
Lilian, who had just returned, nearly jumped out of her skin. She wasn’t sure whether she
should sit down, and in her fluster, she rushed right back to the restroom.
As Jessica returned from delivering documents to Eric, she stopped short at the sight of
Zachary sitting at her desk. For a moment, she wasn’t sure whether to acknowledge him or pretend nothing was out of place.
He sat silently at her desk with his legs crossed, like a noble statue exuding an icy calm.
Evelyn, who hadn’t seen anyone else in the office, glanced outside. She felt a little disheartened when she saw Zachary sitting at an ordinary workstation with his eyes closed,
resting.
At that moment, all eyes turned to Zachary,
For the first time, the design department had fallen completely silent.
Jessica paused, gripping the cup of freshly brewed coffee in her hand.
She carefully walked over and set the coffee and her documents on the desk.
“Mr. Jones…” she said softly, leaning slightly forward to look at him.
The massive Zachary sat in her pink office chair as if it were made for him, perfectly at ease.
“Yeah,” he said lazily.
“Did you need me?” she asked.
“I’m tired. Let me rest for a bit,” he replied.

“Alright,” she said.
Everyone else held their breath for Jessica. She didn’t say anything more. Since she had a meeting in the afternoon, she had no choice but to pull over a chair and sit next to him to
work.
The chair was slightly shorter than a regular office chair, so she had to tilt her head to see the screen. She angled the monitor toward herself and stretched the keyboard cable as far as it would reach, moving it to the side so she could continue working.
The cord didn’t give her much room, and she felt too awkward to ask the massive Zachary to move from her chair, leaving her no choice but to manage her tasks while sitting sideways.
Meanwhile, their group chat, Payroll Legends, lit up.
“Ms. Lockman, did you upset Mr. Jones back in Sylvaria?” one of them typed.
“Did he actually make her work on a tiny stool? Don’t let him get away with it–just sit on his lap!” another texted.
“Ms. Lockman, seduce him,” someone else teased, sending a wink emoji.
“Does anyone else think that Ms. Lockman and Mr. Jones look perfect together?” another chimed in, attaching a picture of them side by side.
Jessica stared at the messages flashing on her WhatsApp interface, shocked by the crude jokes. Some of them even included photos. Still, it was true that Zazhary was shockingly good- looking.
“Everyone, put your work aside for a moment!” Joshua called out, standing in the middle of the design department, with Evelyn at his side.
Everyone set aside their work and stood, looking at the new manager.
“This is the new manager of the design department, Ms. Evelyn Sutton,” Joshua said.
A few minutes passed.
After Joshua’s introduction, Evelyn began introducing herself. Jessica listened carefully, but she noticed that Zachary was now awake.
It would be bad if he saw the chat messages.
Jessica bent her knees a little without looking, reaching carefully for the mouse behind her to close WhatsApp on her monitor. Instead, her hand brushed against a pair of warm, smooth hands. She could even feel the veins on the back of his hand.
She pulled back quickly and stole a tiny glance at Zachary.

He was moving the mouse, looking at the WhatsApp conversation.
Jessica clenched her teeth and twisted his wrist gently. She could hear him chuckle softly
behind her.
Luckily, her desk was at the edge of the office, with a wall and the aisle beside her. No one
behind them could see their little interaction.
“Tomorrow night at Titan Bar, Mr. Carrington from the PR Department and I will be hosting a karaoke night for everyone. I expect to see you all there!” Evelyn announced warmly.
The
group cheered in response, and Jessica joined in, clapping along with the others.
