Chapter 63 

Evelyn had stormed off in a confused huff, yet she gave off no hint of anger. She had excellent self–control, and her every gesture carried a grace that others couldn’t help but admire. 

Jessica stood frozen for a moment before remembering that she had just called Zachary. Seeing her husband’s caller ID light up on the phone screen, she jumped. “Did you hear that?” 

Joshua teased, “Ms. Lockman, come back to class. I want to learn your secrets for making Mr. Jones fall in love with you.” 

Laughter echoed through the cabin. 

When had Zachary become so mischievous? 

Jessica quickly hung up the phone and arrived at the parking garage. 

Joshua sat in the passenger seat as Jessica got into the backseat of the car. 

“Did she give you a hard time?” Zachary asked with a smile. 

Jessica shot him a glare. “It’s all your fault. You’re drowning in admirers, and I have to deal with all these messy situations.” 

After handling Derrick and Celine, Jessica thought she could quietly live a hidden married life. She hadn’t expected getting involved with Zachary to bring even more chaos. 

It was far more complicated to handle women than it was to deal with men. 

“It’s such a curse to be handsome these days,” he muttered confidently, leaning back in his 

seat. 

“I suggest you stick to the seafood market and stop wandering around while causing trouble,” Jessica shot back. 

“Why the seafood market?” Joshua asked, glancing through the rearview mirror. 

“She actually called me a dead fish,” Jessica said, rolling her eyes. 

Zachary let out a light chuckle. 

The comment wasn’t even that funny, but the deep, booming laugh of the driver in the front seat sounded like a piercing scream meant for a haunted house, making everyone else in the car laugh along 

When the plane landed, it was already past 10:00 pm.

After Zachary dropped a few instructions, Joshua went on his own way, leaving only Zachary and Jessica at the airport exit. 

Zachary was sitting in the car, while Jessica was a short distance away. 

At that moment, he noticed a familiar man standing near Jessica. A faint smile tugged at the corner of his mouth, but he didn’t go over to intervene. Instead, he quietly stayed where he 

was. 

“Was it Joshua or Zachary that night?” Derrick asked, looking at her with a mix of accusation 

and humiliation. 

His face was bruised and swollen, and his words came out haltingly. He looked almost pitiful, though Zachary really hadn’t gone far enough. He should’ve broken Derrick’s legs to make sure he didn’t get up to trouble again. 

“In what capacity are you questioning me, Mr. Quinton?” Jessica asked, lifting the coat she had just taken off and hanging it on her suitcase. 

She didn’t completely understand what Derrick meant by “that night”, but it was obvious he was furious. Whoever it was or whatever it concerned, making him this angry was enough. 

“I don’t agree to us breaking up,” he said. 

It wasn’t particularly cold for November, but he looked fragile, like a small flame trembling in the wind. His thin body seemed so delicate that it was as if a strong breeze could send him toppling. 

Over the past week, Jessica had completely cut him out of her world. It had been painful, but Zachary’s gentle care had nurtured her, helping her gradually detach herself from his life. 

Still, Derrick seemed to exist only for Jessica. Even under pressure from his family and 

conflicts at home, all he wanted was her. 

“That’s not for you to decide, Mr. Quinton,” Jessica said calmly. 

“Tell me what I need to do to get you back. I’ll change anything,” Derrick said, taking a step forward. “I was truly drunk that night.” 

Jessica took a step back. 

“If I wanted to be with you, I could lie in bed like Celine and call you my husband. But unfortunately, I’m not her.” 

Even a sly cat would eat fish from the gutter. 

Her eyes blurred with tears. “I thought about marrying you,” she choked out. “But we’re not right for each other.”
