Chapter 56
Jessica cupped her face in both hands, feeling the heat rushing up her cheeks. She glanced at herself in the mirror, finding her cheeks completely red.
Did Zachary really wash her stained underwear?
There wasn’t much of a mess on them, so she hadn’t planned to throw them out. She had just bought them a couple of days ago, and it wasn’t like it would be easy to find the right fit here
in Sylvaria.
Tossing them would’ve been a waste, or so she thought. Now, she had to deal with the embarrassment of having a big shot like Zachary–whose hands usually signed contracts and counted money–washing her underwear!
She changed her clothes, crept out of the bathroom, and quietly climbed back into bed.
The moment she picked up her phone, she saw a message from Joshua, sent the night before.
“Please, for the love of God, make up with him. If you don’t, I’ll be pulling another all–nighter tonight.”
Make up with him? How? With her body? Zachary seemed harder to please than a snarky
teenager.
Jessica tossed her phone aside and rolled over, hoping to get another half hour of sleep, only to come face–to–face with a ridiculously perfect face.
Even in sleep, there was still something cold and intense in the way his brows sat. He looked
like someone who didn’t let his guard down, even when unconscious.
His breathing was calm and steady. Jessica could still catch the faint smell of cilantro from dinner, mixed with a soft minty scent from his toothpaste.
Little did she know, he had spent ages brushing his teeth last night.
Strangely enough, she normally hated cilantro, yet when it was on him, it didn’t seem so bad. She leaned in a little, scrunching her nose and giving him a sniff.
It really wasn’t that awful anymore,
“Zachary,” she called out softly. There was no response.
Jessica began deliberating what she could do to apologize when he woke up. She kissed him in the car last time after saying something wrong, and he didn’t seem mad.
Would that work again?

Face burning, she buried herself under the covers.
Adult apologies were so confusing. Why couldn’t it be just something simple, like handing over a piece of candy or…
“Flowers!” she thought, sitting up straight.
The last time she gave Zachary flowers, Joshua had said he had been in a good mood for days. Her eyes lit up, and she bit her lower lip, barely holding in a mischievous smile.
Then, she leaned over and poked him lightly on the nose. “Little brat.”
Only Jessica and Eric were attending today’s runway show. The event hadn’t started yet, but they were already seated and waiting.
“Joshua and the others had a late–night international meeting. Didn’t wrap up until after 3:00
” he said, yawning. “Made it impossible for me to sleep, too.”
am,
“Oh yeah?” Jessica replied, knowing full well she was the reason behind that.
“Hey, wanna hear some gossip?”
She honestly didn’t, especially not when she was the gossip itself.
”
Still, Eric leaned in anyway and whispered, “I overheard Joshua’s meeting last night. There was a woman’s voice coming from Mr. Jones‘ room. I’m telling you–she sounded like a total
femme fatale.”
Jessica forced a dry laugh.
“That woman had some serious charm. She was practically begging him to come to bed. You think a hot–blooded guy like our CEO can resist that?”
He smirked. “Not even five minutes later, the meeting wrapped up. Didn’t even show up this morning–probably too exhausted from last night.”
That was the rumor going around, huh?
“I mean, Joshua’s not here as well. Are you saying he was cooped up with a woman as well? Or…
Her eyes narrowed as she glanced down at Eric. Then, she tossed the center of attention back
at him.
“Come on! Don’t be ridiculous! Joshua said that the boss was in a good mood and gave them the day off.”

Just like that, his mood improved? Jessica could feel her cheeks flush.
Well, of course, he would be in a good mood. He got a full view of her long legs last night. If it hadn’t been for the stained pants, he might’ve misunderstood that she was trying to seduce
him.
Eric casually leaned in closer. “So, what should we eat after this? My treat! The boss isn’t around, so we can eat whatever we like.”
“No, thanks. I’m meeting an old friend later. Maybe another time,” Jessica quickly declined.
“Alright, I guess.”
Eric looked a bit disappointed, but after spending this much time alone with her today, he was
content.
