Chapter 36
Then, without saying a single word, Zachary resumed his meal. Hit with the unwanted awkwardness, Jessica had no choice but to look down and eat her food.
She felt that he could have at least thanked her for the compliment. Now, both of them were
embarrassed!
At exactly 10:30 am, Blake loaded the luggage into the trunk while Zachary and Jessica slid into the back seat. Their first stop was to pick up Joshua, and then they headed straight to the
airport.
As soon as they stepped out of the car, they ran into Eric and Susan, who called out in unison, ” Mr. Jones!”
Zachary nodded, after which Susan stepped forward and took his luggage.
“Hello, Mr. Jakerman,” Jessica greeted Eric. With that, the group entered the terminal together.
Zachary and Joshua were up front, deep in discussion, with Susan following behind them. In the meantime, Jessica and Eric brought up the rear.
“You came with Mr. Jones?” he cautiously asked.
“Yeah. We’re carpooling,” she replied, her smile faint.
He looked surprised. “I didn’t know that Blake takes side gigs now.”
Well…
“Would you like to come check out Vogue Village with me?” Eric asked. “Mr. Jones gave us a full day off tomorrow. It’s the perfect chance to visit the fashion capital.”
Vogue Village was renowned as a designer’s paradise, home to numerous fashion exhibitions— a place every designer dreamed of visiting.
Jessica glanced toward Zachary up ahead and quickly declined. “Thanks, Mr. Jakerman, but I’ve got other plans.”
She and Zachary had just gotten married, and spending the day alone with another man would definitely raise eyebrows.
…
After collecting their boarding passes, Joshua handed them out one by one, finally stopping in

front of Jessica.

“Much obliged, Mrs. Jones!” he said, his grin cheeky as he leaned in dramatically. “Thanks to you, I get to experience first class at least once in my lifetime!”
She took the ticket, confused. “Huh?”
“Mr. Jones upgraded all of our economy seats to first class, just so he could sit with you.”
Jessica couldn’t help but shift her gaze to Zachary. He was on the phone, looking as stiff as a board, wearing earphones.
When they boarded the plane, just as Joshua had said, her seat was right next to Zachary’s. The others, meanwhile, were seated up front, far from them.
“Are you okay with the arrangement?” Zachary asked.
Jessica smiled. “Yeah, definitely.”
Ever since she complimented his looks the night before, he hadn’t spoken to her.
“Are you mad?” she asked the long–held question.
“No.”
“Then why aren’t you talking?”
“I don’t know where to begin.”
He stared at her somewhat swollen lips and quickly averted his gaze. She chuckled softly, failing to notice the way he was looking at her.
“Is there anywhere you’d like to go?” Zachary casually asked.
“I’m good with anywhere,” Jessica replied, wondering if that meant that they were going off somewhere together, just the two of them.
“Your mother’s still in Sylvaria, isn’t she? Should we stop by and visit her?”
He looked at her seriously, awaiting her response.
Jessica paused, surprised. “How did you know that my mom’s here?”
“You’re my wife. Of course I know.”
The way he called her his wife sent a jolt through her, like her whole body had turned to jelly. A second later, her skin flushed hot. It was as if she had been set on fire.
It didn’t take long before the blood rushed to her cheeks, tinting them red. She touched her burning face and turned away in embarrassment, pretending to look out the window.

So, this was why they were all flying ahead of schedule. She couldn’t help but think he was such a smooth operator.
“It’s fine if she’s not available. I can plan ahead next time,” he added, clearly sensing her
nerves.
“No, it’s alright. My mom loves company. I’m sure we can just drop by any time we want.”
Zachary leaned back into his seat, looking satisfied. He shut his eyes and finally relaxed. Jessica, on the other hand, was panicking on the inside.
