Chapter 34
Zachary strode over to Jessica, who instinctively took a step back. Then, she felt a gentle tug
on her hand.
“Let’s give it a go. We can stop if you’re not feeling it,” he said. For once, being a gentleman felt even more dangerous than being a rascal.
After a long while, Jessica finally squeezed out a word. “Okay…”
She could barely push herself to turn him down.
“Wait. Do I close my eyes now or later?” she thought, clearly conflicted. “I can’t do this!”
She swallowed hard, feeling like she was about to pass out soon. Then, a large hand gently cupped her cheek, taking her by surprise. She jolted and instinctively grabbed his wrist.
“It’s okay. Just relax,” he muttered tenderly in a way she had never heard before.
Jessica inhaled deeply, trying to steady her pounding heart as his breath drew closer. Seeing that he had closed his eyes, she quickly did the same.
Their foreheads touched, and they were close enough to feel each other’s breath.
Her knees were already beginning to buckle before anything had even started. Her free hand, uncertain where to rest, ended up clutching the front of his shirt.
She could feel his hand brush along her cheek, up to her ear, then down to the curve of her neck. His fingers slid gently into her soft hair, and his palm cradled the back of her head, guiding her to look up at him.
Then, just like that, Zachary leaned in and kissed her. Their warm, eager lips met.
Jessica felt a jolt of electricity running through her before letting out a moan. Her legs went weak, and her grip on his shirt tightened.
Fortunately, he caught her by the waist just in time. Otherwise, she might have collapsed right there and then. Embarrassed by the soft, breathy sound that had slipped from her lips, she buried her face in his chest.
Zachary broke into a chuckle. He was laughing at her!
He tried to hold it in, but the smile still hung on his lips. His strong hand gently ruffled her hair, and the arm around her waist tightened just a little more.
Eventually, the air between them fell silent again. It was so quiet that they could have heard a pin drop on the third floor.
Chapter 34
She could feel his warmth slowly shift, pulling away just enough, only for his tall frame to lean in once more. His warm breath pressed down and tickled her face.
The air around them was now thick with their breaths and scents, a quiet tangle of her soft floral fragrance and the subtle sandalwood on him. Then, his lips found hers again.
Jessica’s hands pressed lightly against his chest, her fingers instinctively clutching at his shirt. His kiss was searing, melting away the last bit of tension she held in.
This time, she tried not to make a sound, biting back the soft gasps threatening to escape. However, persistent and patient as Zachary was, his gentle coaxing teased her lips open until she finally gave in.
This was all the invitation he needed. The kiss deepened with intensity and passion.
Somewhere in the moment, a button on his shirt came loose from her tight grip, but neither of them noticed.
She could barely breathe, her legs weak. He must have sensed it because his movements slowed into gentler caresses. Yet, his hot, ragged breath lingered against her skin, curling around them like smoke.
Zachary was lost in the moment, moaning louder with each breath.
He devoured her with both command and tenderness, and his grip around her body only tightened. She lightly thumped a fist against his chest, and only then did he reluctantly pull
away.
Their foreheads rested together as they both gasped for air.
By the time Jessica came to her senses, she realized her arms were somehow wrapped around his neck, and two of his buttons had been torn off–who knew when or how.
Her clothes were partially undone, and her slightly askew sleeve revealed her bare shoulder One of Zachary’s hands rested at her waist, his fingers curled just underneath the fabric.
With
eyes
full of lust, he looked at her and begged, “I want you…”
