Chapter 30
So Zachary was actually waiting for her to pull back.
It was as if Jessica had been the one dying for more just now.
He let out a faint sigh as he carefully lifted the blanket. He didn’t even forget to tug it over to cover the empty, chilly space at her back.
Then, she heard him walk out, followed by the sound of water splashing in the bathroom.
Zachary headed downstairs first, and only after that did Jessica slowly get up to wash and change. When she came down to the living room, she heard some voices coming from there.
When she got a closer look, she saw that it was Ginger.
She thought that she was seeing things, but when she walked closer, she realized that she hadn’t been mistaken at all. Zachary was sitting on the couch and chatting with Ginger.
“Ms. Lloyd?” Jessica stood beside the couch.
Zachary’s gaze shifted from Ginger to Jessica.
Jessica was wearing loose lounge pants and a fitted T-shirt that showed off her figure flawlessly.
“Oh, Jess!” Ginger quickly stood, hurried toward her, and gave her a big hug.
“What are you doing here?” Jessica returned the hug. Then they released each other, smiles lighting up their faces.
Zachary slowly got to his feet. “You should be calling her ‘Mom’.”
Jessica froze for a long moment as she looked at the two of them, finding that there was indeed some resemblance between them.
“Mom? What?” Jessica glanced at Zachary awkwardly, and he pursed his lips into a smile. She couldn’t believe that such a coincidence was possible.
Ginger grabbed Jessica’s hands, saying meaningfully, “I didn’t expect it to be you! My Zach doesn’t talk much, but he’s very thoughtful. Ever since he was a child, we’ve never had to worry about him. Now that he has a cheerful wife like you around, he’s bound to be happy!”
She went on and on with the praise.
At that moment, it seemed as though Jessica was on a blind date. She felt like her heart had been tied to a roller coaster, constantly rising and falling with excitement.
な
The three of them chatted for quite a while. Jessica and Zachary wanted Ginger to stay for lunch, but the latter declined.
After seeing Ginger off, Jessica and Zachary sat at the table beside the open kitchen to eat.
“I heard that you picked out all my clothes,” Zachary remarked.
“Yes.” Jessica didn’t dare meet his eyes. The moment she thought of what had happened earlier that morning, she couldn’t stop herself from blushing.
Zachary said, “I like them a lot.”
She wished that someone would come to her rescue. She didn’t know how to respond to that. What on earth should she say?
“Is there anything else that needs to be prepared?” Zachary lifted his glass of milk and sipped it as he looked at her.
Jessica thought it over, and it seemed like there was nothing left to be done. “That should be about everything.”
“Come find me upstairs when you’re done eating. I’ve got something for you,” he said.
“Okay.” Jessica nodded.
However, she chose to linger downstairs, not wanting to be alone with him. By the time she finally went upstairs, an hour had passed.
When she got back to the room, she froze a little.
Zachary had already packed all their luggage. There were two suitcases, one for each of them. Everything-from coats to socks—was ready.
“You…” Jessica couldn’t believe it. Could heaven have sent this man to rescue her?
“Check if anything is missing from the list,” Zachary said, handing her a list.
Jessica looked at it and started to feel embarrassed. Even the number of sets of underwear had been listed clearly.
It was honestly flawless.
