Chapter 121 

Initially, Amanda wanted to choose one of the larger units, but for some reason, the only listings she was shown were all small apartments. “Zach is already paying over three million dollars in full for this place. I’m very pleased with it!” she chirped. 

“Three million dollars?” Elsa was stunned. Her gaze shifted from Amanda to Joshua. 

Joshua acted like he didn’t hear anything and just wandered around on his own. 

When the three of them went back to the top floor from the 18th, Elsa sat surrounded by a pile of dusty furniture. She questioned Joshua, “Did someone die in this apartment?” 

“Of course not!” He grinned. 

“So what, this apartment can’t see the light of day?” 

“Don’t worry. It’s a legitimate property.” 

“The units downstairs cost more than three million dollars, yet this 5,400 square feet penthouse is only a little over two million dollars? You must be really close to your relative. I really should treat him to dinner someday!” 

“We’re barely acquaintances…” Joshua sounded a little guilty. 

“Barely acquaintances? You’re so cold.” 

Elsa tried to get the truth out of him for a while, but Joshua refused to come clean. In the end, she dropped it and convinced herself that she’d gotten an amazing deal. Still, after he left, she hired a professional team to sweep the place, just in case there were any hidden cameras or other suspicious items. 

Meanwhile, Zachary immediately spotted Jessica dozing off in a chair outside the emergency room at the hospital. She was hooked up to an IV drip and had another man’s coat draped over her shoulders. 

He hurried over, only to see Robert emerge from the side with a cup of warm water. Robert carefully adjusted Jessica’s head so she was resting on his shoulder. He gently called her name and helped her take her medicine. 

With what little strength she had left, she swallowed the pills in two attempts. Her throat felt bitter as she forced them down. Then, out of the corner of her eye, she noticed a familiar figure walking toward them. 

Chapter 121 

Robert followed her gaze. The man approaching them was tall and broad–shouldered, with a buzz cut that gave him a slightly roguish look. Behind his glasses, his eyes were dark and intimidating. 

Zachary met Robert’s gaze. However, the latter’s gaze was calm and harmless in comparison. It was almost as if he didn’t take the former seriously. 

Jessica weakly straightened herself up and watched as Zachary closed the distance between them. He looked angry. Perhaps she was imagining it. 

“Zachary?” 

“Are you running a fever?” 

The men, sizing each other up, didn’t greet one another. 

“Yeah… It’s not serious, though.” 

Zachary sat beside her and tried to feel her forehead, but she pushed his hand away the moment he touched her. 

“Mr. Jones…” 

He froze for a second as a cold feeling spread across his chest. 

Robert let out a barely audible chuckle. “Are you here to see a doctor as well, Mr. Jones?” 

Jessica caught on and was about to speak up when Zachary beat her to it. “My aunt works here, and she knows Jess. When she saw her sitting here with a stranger, she was worried that she might be getting scammed, so she called me to come over.” 

Robert was a little surprised that Zachary was calling Jessica so affectionately. “Don’t worry, Mr. Jones. I’m not a scammer. My name’s Robert.” 

He extended his hand. Zachary took a look at it, plastered a smile on his face, and shook it politely. “Zachary.” 

Jessica sat awkwardly between them, looking back and forth at these two childish men. 

“Since you’ve already checked in on her, we won’t keep you, Mr. Jones,” Robert said. He was basically asking Zachary to leave. 

However, Zachary didn’t answer. He simply turned his head and looked directly at Jessica.
