Silence fell in the hall.Â
Jessica peered out from underneath Zachary’s coat. Scattered on the floor were also several particularly eye–catching black, laced, strap nightdresses…Â
Zachary lowered his head to look at Jessica.Â
“Did she pick on you?” he asked.Â
“No, everything was still fine when I left.”Â
He gritted his teeth and carried Jessica to the bathroom, where he bathed her. Her legs were weak, and her head was throbbing, so she had no choice but to clench her teeth and allow Zachary to clean her.Â
She dozed off right after she got into bed.Â
When Jessica woke up, Zachary was no longer by her side. As usual, a glass of lemon–infused water sat on her bedside table.Â
Despite her heavy head, she put her slippers on and walked to the living room.Â
The living room had been cleaned up, and all the clothing had been categorized and put aside.Â
Regardless, Jessica wasn’t bothered. She returned to the room soon after to get changed.Â
Zachary disallowed her from sticking her nose in matters regarding Amanda, and she could not be bothered herself either.Â
As they approached the end of the year, the design department’s workload increased quite significantly.Â
With the design competition coming up at the end of the year on top of that, work became more intense.Â
After Evelyn and Eric had their discussion, they decided to hold a public poll on the company’s design platform.Â
Jessica sat at her desk, spacing out with one hand propping her chin up. She ruminated over what Zachary had said last night.Â
“Let’s just keep the child if you become pregnant.”Â
The lingering fear within her pushed her to even take the pill in secret.Â
A notification made her phone buzz at this moment. It was a message from the garage owner, telling her that the repairs for her car were done and that she could go over to pick it up.Â
She took a quick glance at the message, almost forgetting that she indeed had another car.Â
After getting off work, she first drove the car she had driven that morning back home. Then, she flagged a cab to get to the garage.Â
Fortunately, Zachary wouldn’t be home for dinner tonight. Jessica could not be bothered to cook, so she decided to just grab a simple meal outside later.Â
Just as she arrived at the garage, she bumped into Robert, who also happened to be picking up his car.Â
“Hey, Jess.”Â
“Hey, Robert.”Â
The pair had a polite exchange.Â
“You don’t look too good. Are you feeling unwell?” Robert inquired, staring at Jessica’s reddened cheeks.Â
She touched her face, noting that it felt warm to the touch.Â
She had a terrible headache after waking up this morning. However, she did not pay much attention to it as she just assumed that it was a hangover.Â
After a day’s work, her headache worsened. Her nose was stuffy, and her throat had been hoarse since last night. Even if she did not sound nasal, others could probably still hear something amiss in her voice.Â
A staff member next to them was sharp–witted enough to ask, “Would you like to take your temperature, miss? We have a first aid kit here.”Â
Jessica did not refuse and sat on a couch. The infrared thermometer beeped, and a reading of 101°F came up.Â
“You actually are running a fever,” Robert remarked, pouring a glass of warm water for Jessica.Â
“I’m fine. I’ll just head to the hospital to get some medications after picking my car up,” Jessica replied, straining her deep voice.Â

“Let me give you a ride to the hospital,” Robert offered.Â
“Oh, I shouldn’t-”Â
Before Jessica could finish her sentence, Robert shot to his feet and strode to the garage’s front counter. After giving them some instructions, he walked back to her.Â
“I can’t feel at ease having you go to the hospital alone like this. I’ve informed them, and someone will bring the car back to your place later.”Â
Jessica did not know what to say. She had no choice but to agree after finishing the glass of water on the table.Â
Shortly after she got into Robert’s car, she fell asleep.Â
Robert pressed his lips together, sneaking peeks at her from time to time.Â
A blush spread across Jessica’s fair cheeks. Because she was unwell, her breathing was slightly shallow and hurried, making her appear as if she had been fully satiated.Â
Robert couldn’t help but tighten his grip on the steering wheel, the veins on the back of his hands popping slightly.Â
After getting out of the car, a couple of steps was all it took for Jessica to feel out of breath. Sweat even formed on her forehead.Â
She could not tell if her shaking legs and inability to walk were a result of last night’s intensity or simply due to sickness.Â
Upon seeing that, Robert swooped her up in a bridal carry.Â
“Put me down…”Â
“Stop insisting when you’re already so unwell.”Â
“Just get me a wheelchair and I’ll be fine.”Â
Worried that Lucy would see them like this, Jessica struggled with all her might. Nonetheless, her strength was negligible and of no effect at all.Â
As a muscular man who often worked out, Robert was not bothered by her struggles at all.Â
Thus, Jessica had no choice but to give up. If she continued struggling in public, she would probably just draw more attention.Â
Instead, she scrambled to send a text message to Elsa.Â
