Chapter 117Â
Jessica couldn’t help but admire Elsa for being able to make such accurate guesses, even for something like this.Â
“If a man has feelings for you, his possessiveness will be perverse. You’ll need to accept it,” Elsa reasoned.Â
Jessica was left speechless. How was that even logical?Â
Still, it was indeed perverse.Â
“Alright, let me help you with touching up your makeup.”Â
Elsa pulled the lipstick from her bag and fixed Jessica’s lipstick.Â
“I should remind you, though, that the woman next to him has other intentions. She has started to act drunk.”Â
Jessica remarked, “You’ve got such sharp eyes.”Â
“At bars, the ones who stand out the most are the ones who don’t like to party. Your husband is one such example. Another is the pitiful–looking woman next to him. It’s impossible not to notice them.”Â
Jessica followed Elsa’s line of sight, only to see Amanda downing drinks on her own.Â
Meanwhile, Evelyn and Mickey were happily chatting away next to her.Â
Zachary walked back to the table but did not sit next to Amanda. Instead, he walked to Matthew’s side, tapped him on his shoulder, and said a few words to him.Â
The tactful Matthew then moved to sit next to Amanda.Â
Thereafter, Zachary started chatting with his other comrades next to him.Â
Amanda had not expected Matthew to sit down next to her. Suddenly, a wave of awkwardness crashed over her.Â
However, she had also become quite tipsy after all the drinks she’d had, so she had no choice but to allow Matthew to steady her as she left.Â
“Your man is actually pretty decent,” Elsa remarked.Â
“Which aspect are you referring to?” Jessica asked.Â
“Are you too drunk to think straight? I wouldn’t know about the other ‘aspects‘, but I’mÂ

talking about boundaries. Do you know what boundaries are?”Â

Jessica snuck a peek at Zachary, coincidentally meeting with those dim eyes of his. He cocked his head slightly, as if he were asking, “What is it?”Â
Jessica was so startled that she looked away immediately.Â
Elsa, with lingering fear in her heart, peered at Joshua, who was casually drinking beside her. She said to Jessica, “Joshua helped me with looking into some properties and told me about a relative’s unwanted secondhand property.Â
“It’s incredibly cheap–only a little over two million dollars for a 300 square feet apartment that’s located right in the city. But after looking at it, I feel like it’s newly renovated. Is this ex-Â
schoolmate of yours reliable? Would he have recommended a place where someone once died?Â

“I don’t think so. He and I are buddies. He’s always been reliable in everything he does.”Â
“What does his family do?” Elsa asked.Â
Jessica answered, “They run a farm. I’ve been there once during a school gathering.”Â
Elsa breathed a sigh of relief. Farmers were honest people. They probably weren’t scammers.Â
Joshua, who felt bored next to them, leaned in. “What’s the secret chatter going on here? Let me in on the fun.”Â
“We’re talking about how much your boss pays you.”Â
Jessica picked up the glass of Atomic Peach on the table and clinked glasses with him.Â
Joshua’s salary was indeed a mystery. The things that he did for his employer were not limitedÂ
to work–related matters.Â
He replied, “That actually depends on Mrs. Jones’s mood. If she’s in a good mood, I will be compensated well. If she lashes out, I might end up broke next month.”Â
A bout of laughter came from their table.Â
Zachary fixed his eyes on Jessica the whole time, prompting Evelyn to glance over, following his gaze. She saw Jessica, Elsa, and Joshua gathered together.Â
She did not suspect anything about Jessica. From her perspective, it was normal for Joshua to bring Jessica along.Â
After all, rumors about him and Jessica were growing day by day within the design department.Â
Zachary couldn’t possibly actually have an interest in Elsa, could he? Could Elsa be the keptÂ

woman whom Amanda talked about?Â
Over the last two days, she had seen Joshua chauffeur Elsa around every day. Moreover, Zachary seemed to treat Elsa much better than he did others.Â
Thus, the woman Zachary cared about had to be Elsa!Â

Evelyn took a sip of alcohol and slightly curled her lips upward at the sight.Â
Since Elsa was merely his kept woman, it meant that she still stood a chance.Â
“Zachary, do you want to go over together and greet them?” she inquired.Â
Together? If they went over together, it would certainly give the others the impression that they were involved in some way.Â
Zachary gave Evelyn a sidelong glance and took a sip of alcohol, ignoring her.Â
Even though she was rejected, Evelyn did not mind. She had plenty of time left.Â
Her father once saved Zachary’s father’s life. Plus, since they were friends who grew upÂ
together, the relationship between the two of them was self–evident.Â
If not for the lifelong friendship between their families, she would have already been blacklisted by Zachary after they broke up.Â
There would not be a place for her here otherwise.Â
