Chapter 37 Evelyn Steps In 

Yvonne was out of options.

She was no match for Evelyn. 

Even though it hurt, she had to hand over the 50 bucks. 

Then she urged, “Go help now. If you can’t solve it, you’re paying me back.” 

“Of course I’ll get the job done now that I have the money.” Evelyn nodded slightly. 

She took her time, then opened the door and stepped out. 

Irene and Jasmine were exhausted from fighting. Standing a few yards apart, all they had left was the energy to yell insults at each other. 

The ground was covered in poop, with no clean place to step. 

Evelyn didn’t seem to mind and walked right over it. 

As she got closer to Jasmine, Jasmine became wary and held her ladle toward Evelyn. “What do you want? Do you want me to splash you with feces?” 

“But your bucket is empty,” Evelyn reminded her. 

The earlier fight had used up all of Jasmine’s “ammunition.” 

She glanced back into the bucket, still on guard. “Then what do 

you 

want?” 

“Talk,” Evelyn said. 

Upstairs, she had deliberately drawn things out with Yvonne. 

Evelyn knew from her past life how difficult Jasmine could be. 

When she got angry, she ignored everyone and stubbornly fought anyone who disagreed with her. 

Once she was exhausted, she could think more clearly, follow simple logic, and analyze the pros and cons. 

Evelyn was waiting for this exact moment. 

Now that Jasmine had no strength left to fight, it was time to negotiate.

“You came here for Seth, didn’t you?” Evelyn asked.

At the mention of her son, Jasmine’s eyes reddened. She glared at Yvonne standing by the door. “Your mom’s a bitch! She let your sister seduce my son and now she’s trying to blame him! Seth has never suffered like this! It’s just awful!” 

“Do you know how long he’s been detained?” Evelyn asked. 

Jasmine nodded. “I know, fifteen days, but it’s only been five! When I went to see him, he was already so thin. Evelyn, you used to be Seth’s girlfriend. You can’t just abandon him like this, can you?” 

So she did remember Evelyn was his ex-girlfriend. 

But they’d already broken up. What did that matter? 

Evelyn sneered inwardly, then told her. “He only had ten days left before getting out. But because of you, he might be locked up a lot longer.” 

Jasmine instantly panicked. 

She completely forgot that her hands were filthy and grabbed Evelyn’s wrist. “Why? I didn’t sue him! Why would he stay in jail longer because of me?” 

Evelyn explained. 

Trespassing, insulting others, and attacking the victim’s family. 

It all came from Seth’s case. 

When the police looked into it, they’d only think it was a fit of rage, which would confirm the crime. How could Seth possibly get out of that? 

And not just him, Jasmine herself could end up in jail for it, too. 

By the time they got out, they’d have nothing left. They’d be broke, begging on the streets just to eat. 

Every word hit home, sending chills through Jasmine’s heart. 

Seth still had a bright future. She absolutely couldn’t ruin it like this. 

As if she had found a lifeline, she anxiously asked, “What should I do, Evelyn? Help me think of something. You used to be with Seth, you’re practically half a daughter-in-law, right? Please, help us.”

Ex-girlfriend was fine. Daughter-in-law? Gross.

In her past life, Evelyn had had more than enough of being her daughter-in-law. 

Without a change in her expression, Evelyn slowly pulled her hand away. 

Then she waved Jasmine closer and said, “Come here. I’ll tell you what to do.” 

They whispered so quietly that no one else could hear what they were talking about. 

This made Yvonne, who was watching from a distance, anxious. 

The last thing she heard was Jasmine begging Evelyn for help. 

She lowered her head. So the problem is solved. 

But Evelyn wouldn’t let Yvonne hear how she was going to help Jasmine. 

Was there some kind of conspiracy? 

For a moment, Yvonne felt her 50 bucks had been wasted. 

Such simple reasoning-if she thought it through, she could have said the same thing herself. Why bother paying Evelyn? 

And now, Jasmine and Evelyn seemed to be on the same side. Could these two be plotting something again? 

Lost in her own thoughts, Yvonne felt a wave of anxiety. 

She nervously moved closer to Evelyn and Jasmine, trying to eavesdrop on their conversation. 

But before she got near, Evelyn had already straightened up, glanced at Yvonne, then turned back to Jasmine and said, “That’s it. That’ll work.” 

“Really? You sure?” Jasmine asked. 

Evelyn nodded, “But you need to hurry, It’ll be dark soon.” 

Jasmine said yes in a hurry, turned around, and ran away, not even bothering to grab the 

bucket and ladle. 

Seeing her run, Irene became incredibly anxious. 

“Why did that bitch run away? Bring her back here! I’m not done with her about what she did

“Grandma, Uncle Victor, you should go inside and wash up. Don’t let the neighbors laugh at us,” Evelyn said softly. 

But Irene refused. 

She was still yelling and tried to rush out to drag Jasmine back. 

Yvonne stopped her. 

She quickly said, “Mom, just take Victor inside and get cleaned up. The smell’s too strong. It’s awful.” 

They had finally gotten Jasmine to leave. If more trouble broke out now, who knew how nuch money Evelyn would demand to smooth things over. 

Feeling a little helpless, Irene and Victor went inside to shower. 

They left a trail of dirty footprints behind them. 

Evelyn was about to go inside to change and wash her hands, but Yvonne blocked the door. 

Her bright eyes filled with suspicion. “What did you say to Jasmine just now?” 

‘Didn’t you hear everything?” Evelyn shrugged. 

Of course she didn’t. They’d whispered so quietly, no one could possibly hear a thing. 

Yvonne knew Evelyn was playing dumb, so she didn’t beat around the bush. “I’m talking about what you whispered in her ear. What did you say to make her leave so willingly?” 

How could a woman that fierce and unreasonable suddenly become so compliant in front of Evelyn?
