Chapter 31 Got Burned Again
Evelyn had her own treatment plan.
But she wasn’t going to tell the old man just yet.
She decided to keep him guessing and save the details for tomorrow.
Hearing that, the old man chuckled.
“Okay, we’ll talk tomorrow.”
After setting a time to meet the next day, Evelyn turned to leave.
The elderly man who had snatched her popcorn stopped her: “Do you really have a way to fix his leg?”
Of course she did.
Evelyn tilted her head, looked at the old man, and smiled. “You’ve figured it out too?”
“Yeah, so can I come and watch?” the old man asked.
Of course.
Not just to watch–it could be a chance to exchange ideas and learn.
“Same time tomorrow then,” Evelyn suggested. “The three of us can go to his place together. How’s that sound, sir?”
“Sounds good.” He nodded.
Then after a pause, he added, “Don’t call me ‘sir.‘ Walter. Just call me Mr. Walter.”
“See you tomorrow, Mr. Walter.”
Evelyn waved at him, then turned and walked away.
Behind her, Walter’s smile faded. He shook his head slightly and sighed softly. “Senior, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen someone as confident as you. Maybe it’s fate, or maybe this one’s meant to be your mentee.
After muttering to himself for a bit, Walter picked up the bag of popcorn and slowly left the station.
Meanwhile, Evelyn had already stepped into the station lobby.
It was exactly 11 o’clock.
And there was Victor–showing up empty–handed, looking completely relaxed.
He glanced around and asked, “Where is everyone? Where’s your dad? Why didn’t he bring the jeep to pick me up?”
What a nerve, demanding a Jeep to pick him up.
But on second thought, it made sense.

Whenever Victor came to Southville before this incident, Zaid–as his brother–in–law–would always go all out to host him, never cutting corners.
After all, Zaid was a man who cared about his reputation.
If Victor didn’t have a good time and went back to the village bad–mouthing him, how would Zaid ever show his face again?
So Victor got used to acting this way.
Whenever he came to Southville, he acted entitled.
Others might put up with him, but Evelyn was not going to.
She had had enough of this uncle in her last life, and she wasn’t about to put up with him in this life.
She sneered. “Uncle Victor, want me to borrow the latest Mercury Cougar for you? Real flashy ride–makes the welcome feel grand, right?”
‘No need. That’s just a small car, too cramped. I like Jeeps; they’re spacious, and I can stretch my legs.”
It took him a moment to realize she was mocking him.
You brat, is that how you talk to me? I’m your uncle. What’s wrong with me taking your dad’s Jeep?” Victor said angrily.
Evelyn just shrugged. “Then you can wait. My dad will come pick you up after work. Sound good?”
How long would that take?
She was clearly messing with him.
If he fell for her trick and waited here out of spite, what about lunch?
He hadn’t eaten in the train for a long time, saving room just so he could have a good meal when he got
here.
No way he was going to let this brat get the better of him.
So, he cleared his throat and said, “Fine, I’ll just grab a cab. No need to trouble your dad all the time, he’s already got enough on his plate just taking care of you.”
Even while giving himself a way out, he had to jab at Evelyn.
What a piece of work.
Evelyn just smirked and kept walking,
As planned, they took a cab back.
All the way, Victor kept stewing over the fact that no one had come to pick him up. He was already
planning to complain to Yvonne as soon as he got to the Schmidt Residence.
Evelyn and Zaid are completely out of control!
But he decided he’d wait until he had a full stomach to talk about it.
He didn’t have the energy to complain on an empty stomach.
But when they arrived at the Schmidt Residence, the place was cold and quiet.
Not only was there no food, but there was no one home.
“Where’s your mom? Where’s my mom?” Victor was dumbfounded.
Still thinking about a big meal? Might as well chew on the table.

Evelyn, however, noticed some dried blood stains on the floor, and knew they had been there for a while.
“Just wait. They’ll be back soon,” she said softly, then dropped onto the couch.
Completely at ease, she flipped through a magazine.
She had eaten a whole bag of popcorn outside the train station and wasn’t hungry, so she wasn’t in a hurry.
The one who was restless was Victor.
He was starting to miss his wife’s eggs benedict.
At that time, he had been so excited to come to the city to eat well that he had left them all on the train.
Now, he was starving, and just thinking about the taste made his mouth water.
He couldn’t stand it any longer, so he went to the kitchen and chewed on a raw cucumber.
Just as he finished, Yvonne and Irene came back.
“Where have you been? I’m starving! There’s nothing in the house. Didn’t you know I was coming? Why didn’t you prepare some meat or something?”
The rapid questions made Yvonne so dizzy that she didn’t know where to begin to answer.
After a moment, she glanced at the living room and lowered her voice. “I went to the hospital and didn’t have time to shop.”
The trip to the hospital had taken hours–stitches, injections, the whole hassle,
But Victor still wouldn’t let it go. “You must have passed a store on the way back from the hospital. Why didn’t you buy anything?
Seriously?
His own sister had just come back from the hospital, and he didn’t even ask what was wrong–he just complained that she didn’t bring him anything.
Chapter 31 Got Burned Again
Yvonne was already furious, having gotten burned by Evelyn and in pain all afternoon.
When she heard Victor say that, she lost it.
Finished
“My hand is this injured, and you expect me to go buy you food? Victor, have you no sense? There’s a shop outside. Why couldn’t you get something yourself?”
That set Victor off too.
Victor also lost his temper and was about to argue with Yvonne.
Irene saw the situation getting out of hand and quickly stepped in to be a peacemaker.
If they start fighting now, how will they handle the problem?
“Everyone, calm down. Yvonne, go back to your room and rest. I’ll take Victor out to get some food, and I’ll make you oatmeal later.”
With that, she forcefully pushed Victor toward the door.
In the blink of an eye, the two of them had already left the yard, heading toward the store.
Only Yvonne and Evelyn were left in the living room.
Yvonne was still furious, her chest heaving violently.
Meanwhile, Evelyn was completely relaxed. She finished the last page of the magazine, slowly stood up, and was about to go upstairs.
Unable to control herself, Yvonne called out to her from behind.
