Chapter 8 

After resting for a few days, Isabella finally reunited with her biological parents. They embraced, tears streaming down their faces. 

When the topic of her past engagement came up, Isabella’s expression grew cold. “Nathaniel slept with another woman behind my back. I was so shocked that night I ran out, got into the car accident, and Alexander took advantage of the situation.” 

“I will never forgive Nathaniel. This engagement is over!” 

Her parents didn’t push it. They thought what mattered most was their daughter’s happiness. 

After several days of preparation, they held a grand homecoming ceremony for her. 

Nathaniel also attended that day. 

He stared intently at the girl on stage in her pearl gown, his eyes filled with fervent anticipation. 

It really was her… 

She was back… 

He had searched for her for so long, thinking he might never see her again. 

Now she was finally back… 

Isabella went to the dressing room to change, and the moment she opened the door, she fell into a passionate embrace. 

A wave of masculine presence poured over her, and her lips were pressed. “Let go of me… ugh…” 

Nathaniel held her tightly, refusing to release her. 

Isabella slapped him hard. 

“What are you pretending for, Nathaniel? If it weren’t for you, how would I have ended up like 

this?” 

“You slept with your first love and drove me crazy in the middle of the night. Everything I’ve been through today is because of you! I hate you–I’ll never forgive you in my life!” 

Nathaniel’s brow furrowed deeply. He then made a call. 

Soon, his identical younger brother arrived. 

“Isabella, you’ve misunderstood! The one who slept with Lily wasn’t my brother, it was me. Lily

“I’m really sorry, Isabella, for causing such a serious misunderstanding…” 

Isabella froze. 

“Then why didn’t you explain at the time?” 

Nathaniel looked a little aggrieved. “I wasn’t there. My brother tried to explain to you, but you ran off without a word. By the time he got dressed and chased after you, you were already gone…” 

So that explained the misunderstanding. 

Isabella lowered her head, saying nothing. 

Nathaniel finally felt relieved. “Since it’s all cleared up, can our engagement continue?” 

He looked at her cautiously, only to be rejected. “Forget it. I… I’m already married. You’ll surely 

find someone better…” 

With that, she ran off like the wind. 

Nathaniel stared at her retreating back for a long time, then made a call in a grim tone. 

“Investigate. Find out everything about Isabella over these years. I want to know who dared hurt 

her, who dared to deceive her into marriage!” 

In the following days, there was no news from Nathaniel. 

Isabella felt a mix of relief and a little disappointment. 

Memories flooded back in, each filled with Nathaniel’s care and tenderness. 

At five 

years old, he had held her tiny hand in front of a wooden castle and promised to marry her. 

At ten, their families arranged a childhood betrothal. He had excitedly said he would build a real castle to hide her away, 

At seventeen, he confessed to her; she became his girlfriend, giving him her first kiss, her full love devoted to him. 

At twenty–one, she was in a car accident and forgot the one she had loved all her life. 

Isabella felt her heart ache. She had finally tasted the feeling of truly loving someone. 

Sleeping until the afternoon, she was awakened by a commotion. 

The Carter family had come to formally propose marriage.

“Isabella, I don’t care about your past, nor if you’ve been married before. All I know is that you have been the bride I decided to marry since I was three.” 

“Isabella, I’ve finally waited for you. Will you marry me?” 

Nathaniel knelt on one knee, holding a 5–carat diamond ring, looking at her with unwavering devotion. 

Her eyes suddenly welled up with tears. 

Their wedding preparations began in full swing. 

Meanwhile, Alexander had searched for Isabella for a long time in vain. Feeling hopeless, he turned to heavy drinking. 

Drinking from dawn till dusk, he lost all sense of day and night, his life spiraling out of control. He wished he could drink himself to death. 

Ivy came to see him several times but was driven away as he smashed bottles. 

“It’s all your fault! Isabella left me because of you! Get out! Just get out!” 

Ivy cried as she held him. “Alexander, I’m your true love! Isabella is just a fake! She’s my substitute!” 

Substitute or not, Alexander had long since loved her. 

He shoved Ivy to the ground, his eyes blazing with fire. “I’ll say it again. If you ever show up in front of me again, I’ll destroy your whole Thompson family!” 

Ivy gritted her teeth and handed him a video. 

“Is it worth it for her? She’s already happily engaged to another man! Alexander, she cheated on you. Why can’t you let go?” 

Alexander took the phone, only to see Isabella nestled by Nathaniel’s side, smiling radiantly. 

He staggered back, stunned, struck as if by lightning.
