Chapter 15
Life settled into a calm routine.
Isabella gave birth to twins, a boy and a girl, driving Nathaniel completely over the moon. He was so thrilled that he chartered a luxury cruise to celebrate.
All the guests gushed with envy. “Mr. Carter and Mrs. Carter are so in love! Look at this lavish gesture, he really puts his wife on a pedestal.”
“And now with twins, a boy and a girl, they’re living the dream! Mrs. Carter is incredibly lucky!”
Isabella and Nathaniel held hands, smiling as they accepted the guests‘ congratulations.
Casually glancing to the side, she met the warm, gentle smile of the man beside her, and her chest
felt aflame.
This happiness had been delayed for so many years. For so long, she had almost thought it would
never come.
Fortunately, what was meant to leave couldn’t be held back, and what was meant to come would
arrive sooner or later. She finally held the hand of the one she truly loved. From now on, she would never let go.
Years later, the twins had grown into a teenage boy and girl.
Having achieved everything, Nathaniel and Isabella now had gray hair and wrinkles, yet their love for each other remained as strong and unwavering as ever.
One day, while picking up their children from school, Isabella felt as if someone was following
them.
She turned, but saw nothing.
She told Nathaniel about it that night. Concerned, he accompanied her to pick up the kids the next
day.
“Someone really might be following us…
Nathaniel’s voice turned serious. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a tall, disheveled man with a deeply hunched back and graying hair, making it hard to tell his age.
What annoyed Nathaniel most was how the man’s gaze never left Isabella.
“Let’s walk faster.” Nathaniel said, holding his wife’s hand tightly, their fingers entwined.

As they passed a farmer’s market, Isabella stopped to buy some eggs. When it was time to pay, she froze. “You…?”
“Thirty bucks and two dimes, how would you like to pay, ma’am?” the old woman behind the counter said with a flattering smile. Isabella was stunned to see that it was actually Ivy.
Seeing Isabella, Ivy didn’t react much. Instead, she asked, since they were all familiar faces, if she
could buy another dozen eggs.
Isabella, her face a mix of emotions, paid for the eggs.
Without saying a word, she grabbed Nathaniel’s hand and walked off.
After a couple of minutes, they heard a loud crash behind them. Turning around, Isabella saw
Ivy’s stall had been overturned by a man. It was the same man who had been tailing them earlier.
The man knocked over the stall, cursing as he did, causing Ivy to burst into tears.
Just as the man was about to turn, Nathaniel stepped forward, covering Isabella’s look.”

Gripping her hand, he urged, “Let’s hurry up
and
go.”
In the end, Isabella didn’t spare Alexander another glance.
Alexander, however, stared after her long and obsessively, unable to let go–haunted and
unforgettable.
After this brief, tense interlude, life returned to its calm routine.
As Nathaniel held Isabella’s hand, walking through the snow, the snowflakes gently settled on
their heads. He chuckled.
“Do you remember your eighteenth birthday? That same snowy day, we walked together for so long.”
Isabella smiled too. “You asked me then when I would finally agree to be your girlfriend. I always said, ‘Soon, soon.“”
She sighed softly, a hint of regret in her voice. “If I had known I would waste so much time with Alexander back then… I should have said yes to you sooner…”
Before she could finish, Nathaniel’s lips covered hers.
He kissed her passionately, leaving her breathless and no room for words. “Don’t look back, Isabella. We’re happy now, and that’s all that matters.”

Isabella wrapped her arms around him, returning the kiss fervently.
Yes, she was truly happy now.
Whether it came early or late, it was still happiness, undiminished.
A lifetime stretched long ahead, and the person before her was so unforgettable.
