The papers fluttered down like snowflakes.
Some sharp–eyed guests noticed and shouted, “Oh my god! The spouse listed on the marriage certificate is Ivy Thompson! It’s not Isabella at all!”
Alexander was dumbfounded, staring blankly before he finally reacted, “N–no… how… how could
this happen…?”
Panic overtook him.
Back then, he had softened and agreed to get a marriage certificate with Ivy, and become her legal husband, just to make her happy.
But how did Isabella find out?
And she had taken it out right in front of everyone…
It was over.
Alexander’s hopes crumbled. He was dragged out by the Carter family’s bodyguards who had
rushed over.
The wedding went off without a hitch, as if nothing had happened.
No one dared question a thing anymore. After witnessing that scene, everyone agreed that
Nathaniel and Isabella finally becoming a couple was no easy feat.
A gentle breeze swept through the hall, but it could not cool the heat within her. Isabella clung tightly to Nathaniel’s arm, losing the moment with him.
They returned to Eastbridge for their honeymoon.
Every morning, Isabella’s parents would prepare breakfast for them. In the evenings, they strolled hand in hand by the river, savoring quiet moments together.
Once Isabella’s parents learned of her past hardships, they adored Nathaniel all the more.
The family lived in bliss every day.
“Nathaniel, you’ve been married a few days now. When are you going to have a child? Your dad and I are still young. We could help take care of them for a few years.”
Isabella shyly interrupted, “Mom, why are you in such a hurry…”
Seeing her like this, Nathaniel smiled indulgently. “You’ve got it, Mom. I’ll make it happen!”

Isabella’s cheeks turned crimson.
At that moment, something totally unexpected occurred.
A dazzling light shone ahead, followed by a loud bang! Nathaniel swerved the steering wheel urgently.
But the oncoming car seemed to deliberately swerve toward them, blocking their way.
Nathaniel was hit violently, blood streaming from his head, unconscious behind the wheel.
Isabella only suffered some minor scrape but was horrified, her face pale. “Nathaniel! Nathaniel!”
Kind–hearted bystanders immediately called for an ambulance. Isabella finally had a moment to
look at the at–fault car.
She froze when she saw it.
“Alexander?”
He had followed them here too!?
Isabella shouted to the distant traffic police, “That’s him! That’s the man! He deliberately hit my
husband! Officer, it’s attempted murder!”
Alexander didn’t flee. Instead, he glared at her in fury.
“You really switched sides fast, Isabella. I knew it! You’ve been sneaking around with him behind my back!”
“Isabella, you’re nothing but a promiscuous woman! The police should be locking you up!”
As soon as he finished speaking, Isabella’s father, William Miller, slapped him hard.
“So you’re Alexander! You’ve been deceiving my daughter all these years!”
Then he turned to his secretary, his tone serious. “Michael, call the police! Quick! Say someone committed marriage fraud–I want this man ruined!”
Alexander then finally realized the gravity of the situation and feared, though he still wasn’t willing to admit defeat. “William, you’re being unreasonable. What exactly did I deceive Isabella about? I’ve been good to her all these years.”
“Besides, we’ve already been together. She’s mine, and nothing will ever change that. How could you call the cops on me?”
Isabella was seething, her eyes burning with fury. “Shut up!”

William had already fainted from anger and was rushed to the hospital.
As Isabella waited outside Nathaniel’s hospital room, her hatred for Alexander reached its peak.
He had ruined the best years of her life.
But he just wouldn’t stay gone, haunting her life and shattering her peace once again.
Even with hatred for Alexander burning in her chest, as she counted the ticking seconds outside
the operating room, she finally realized how important Nathaniel had become to her.
The moment he slumped unconscious from the crash, her own heart had clenched in terror.
Nathaniel had survived a car accident eight years ago.
she had suddenly craved crab cakes from the outskirts of town that night. Without hesitation, he
had driven across half the city just to buy them.
On the way home, only five minutes from their house, he collided with a truck.
He was unconscious for three days and nights; the doctors even issued a critical notice.
That was the closest he had ever come to death. At the time, Isabella had even thought about dying with him.
She couldn’t lose him.
Absolutely couldn’t.
The same tragedy had struck eight years later, but this time, it was caused by human malice.
With that thought, she made a phone call to the prison. Once the call ended, Nathaniel was
wheeled out of the operating room.
“The patient is out of danger,” the doctor announced.
At the same time, Alexander crouched in the shadowed corner of his cell in Eastbridge Prison.
Every time he closed his eyes, he remembered the disgusted look Isabella had given him.
She had never looked at him like that before.
Every time she had looked at him in the past, her eyes were full of admiration and affection.
When had it started, that she began to feel annoyed just by looking at him?
Could it be that she really didn’t love him anymore?

The very thought of that possibility made Alexander’s heart ache.
Just then, the prison guard came. “Inmate 225, step outside. There’s new evidence regarding your case.”
Alexander’s eyes brightened with hope. He stepped out, hearing two guards whispering about the woman who had provided the evidence, “Ms. Miller.” A faint ripple of emotion stirred in his heart.
He knew it! Isabella wouldn’t just stand by and watch him get arrested.
She was trying to find a way to get him out.
A warm, sweet feeling filled his heart.
“Due to new evidence, Inmate 225 is being transferred from a regular facility to a maximum–security prison. The transfer is happening immediately.”
Alexander froze at the prison guard’s words. “What? Maximum security?”
The guard gave him a disdainful look. “Yes. A woman named Ms. Miller has filed a formal report against your company for tax evasion and illegal tax avoidance. You need to come with us.”
