Chapter 6 

288 Vouchers 

They were gazing down from the second–floor window. 

Peter clenched his teeth. “That bitch just now–what’s her name again?” 

Miranda shrank back, trembling. “There are too many of us. We don’t remember.” 

Peter clenched his fists. “Find out who she is. Send her parents some hush money. After that, make sure no one goes looking for her again.” 

I leaned on the windowsill, watching the woman barely clinging to life on the garden lawn. She was dragging herself with her broken leg, desperately trying to crawl toward the gate. 

Peter leaned closer, his breath hot against my neck. He glanced indifferently downstairs. 

“Oh right, strip her before dealing with her. A woman with a filthy heart like that doesn’t deserve to dress like her.” 

The women trembled and fell to their knees. 

Peter turned, sneering coldly. “Is no one going to admit it, still? Who told you to hurt Felicia? 

“If no one confesses, then keep kneeling until she wakes up.” 

The women knelt in a circle around my bed. No one dared look at me the wrong way. No one dared speak. 

It was the third day, and my parents still hadn’t come for me. The women’s panicked eyes were making me irritable. 

The weather had warmed up. One woman finally couldn’t hold it in and vomited. 

Miranda broke down. She crawled over while sobbing and started banging her head on the floor. 

“Ms. Durand, we were wrong! We were stupid; we made you eat pecan pie. Blame us if you like! But we didn’t kill you, really! How could pecan pie cause a heart puncture? Please, visit Mr. Auclair in his dreams and tell him to let us go!” 

Peter, with stubble on his chin, sat on the couch. His eyes were still vicious. 

“What? You didn’t kill her? You’re saying I did? I loved her so much. How could I possibly hurt her? It was you all! You were jealous of how much I loved her. You killed her on purpose!” 

No one spoke. Even the butler and maids turned away, unable to watch. 

Sarah suddenly clenched her fists and stood up. 

“Peter, don’t forget–it was you who broke her leg. It was you who auctioned off her parents‘ things. Who’s the one who really hurt her? And now that something has actually happened, you’re blaming all of us? Have you ever treated

“I’m done with this cage. I’m out! Fight over him all you want. I’m going home!” 

Sarah took off her heavy, luxurious coat, took a deep breath, and walked out. 

With just a look from Peter, she was dragged away with her mouth covered and locked in the basement.

Peter wiped his hands with a blank face. “As long as Felicia doesn’t wake up, I’ll send one person down there each day. You guys can keep those two bitches company. Sooner or later, the Grim Reaper will take pity and return her to 

me.” 

Eventually, the women were all locked away. 

Peter sat at my bedside, holding my hand day after day, waiting for me to wake up. 

He tried to take the stone ring from my hand, but I was gripping it too tightly. He couldn’t pry it loose. 

He gently patted my hand and coaxed softly, “Are you still mad at me? I only said those things out of anger. You wouldn’t apologize, so what was I supposed to do? 

“You’re so petty. Didn’t we agree you’d give me this ring? Why won’t you hand it over now? 

“It’s broken anyway. Once I close the deal on this week’s project, I’ll buy you a bigger, better, and more expensive one, okay?” 

Three days later, my private doctor showed up. 

Peter instinctively tried to kick him out, but then he saw the doctor holding all of my medical records from the past three years.
