Soon it was time to take the vows with Jessica standing at the altar waiting for Alex to arrive amidst guests who looked forward to the day.
The banquet hall, adorned with flowers and decorations, felt suffocatingly silent except for the rustle of her dress when even after waiting an hour there were no signs
of Alex.
Jessica stood pale with Diana Dawson and her husband Jacob Dawson standing stiffly.

Glancing at her phone for the hundredth time with no calls and messages Jessica dialed Alex with trembling fingers only for her call to disconnect automatically.
He had blocked her. Astonished by this development Jessica called Giovanni office, connecting to Alex’s uncle.
“Uncle..Uncle please where is Alex-”
“Where is your fucking nephew?!” Jessica was interupped halfway as my father snatched the phone from her hand, wishing to show everyone a solid proof of what kind of ruthless people Giovanni’s were.
He turned the phone to speaker mode and recorded the call so he could ask for compensation from Alex’s grandfather.
“What is the meaning of this?!!“he gritted his teeth in rage.
“Mr Dawson.” came Thomas’s cold voice. “The wedding is off. Alex is not coming.”
My father’s blood ran cold. “What do you mean, It’s off? We are not some beggars! Giovanni’s can’t just call the wedding off an hour before!”
The silence that followed was deafening. Jessica’s hands clenched into fists, her carefully applied makeup threatening to smudge as tears pricked her eyes. “Wedding is off?” Her body quivered as my father continued shouting profanities.
“Do you think this is some kind of a joke?! The Giovanni’s-”
“What about us? didn’t your good adopted daughter tell you thrown Alex out of the Giovanni family?”
