Chapter 6 

The moment our eyes met, my mother had no more doubts. 

She pushed past Lacey who was blocking her way and rushed straight to me. 

She brushed aside my disheveled hair, and all the wounds from the vicious dog bites, along with the raised handprints from the slaps, were exposed before my mother’s eyes. 

Seeing the horrific injuries covering my body, pain and fury flashed in her eyes. 

“Quinn Marshall, you better explain to me why my precious daughter was beaten like this!” 

“Mom, she’s just a fraud…” 

Quinn walked over, about to explain, when his gaze suddenly fell on my face. His expression changed dramatically. 

“Shea, how could it be you!” 

The shock and heartache in his eyes looked like nothing but performance to me. 

Sharp pain suddenly shot through my abdomen. I gripped my mother’s hand tightly and spoke the most important words before losing consciousness. 

“Mom, I want to divorce Quinn Marshall!” 

When I opened my eyes again, I was lying in the Reed family’s private hospital. 

Through the curtain, I could hear the doctor explaining my condition to my mother. 

“Miss has multiple bite wounds, some deep enough to show bone. I’m afraid they’ll affect her appearance and will require skin grafts later.” 

“There are also multiple fractures that will need proper rest and recovery.” 

“As for the baby… we really couldn’t save it…” 

“Your son-in-law has oligospermia, so the embryo quality was already poor and prone to miscarriage. With Miss being beaten so severely…” 

My mother’s cold voice interrupted. 

“What son-in-law! The Reed family doesn’t acknowledge any such son-in-law!” 

The Marshall family had come too. 

Seeing my mother’s fury, Old Mr. Marshall raised his cane and beat Quinn with it. 

“You heartless bastard! Shea was so good to you, how could you betray her!” 

Grandmother Marshall clutched her chest, crying. 

“That was our Marshall family’s future grandchild! The doctor said with your condition, you’d probably only have this one child in your lifetime, and that little bitch ruined it all!” 

Hearing this, pain flashed across Quinn’s face. 

He’d hoped for this child for so long, yet the unborn baby had been destroyed by his own hands. 

Quinn’s voice carried a bitter tone as he knelt before my mother. 

“Mom, I know this is all my fault. Considering Shea and I have been married all these years, please give me one more chance.”

Hearing this, my mother was so angry she pointed at his nose and scolded him. 

“My daughter nearly lost her life, and you’re still obsessing over having children!” 

“All these years of IVF treatments, my daughter suffered the most! And you still want to put her through that torture? I’m telling you, absolutely not!” 

She immediately called her legal team. 

“Come here right now. I want to file for my daughter’s divorce!” 

The Marshall family panicked. Mrs. Marshall tried to placate her. 

“Quinn did wrong, but you can’t deny him even a chance to make amends.” 

“The young couple has deep feelings for each other. If you force them to divorce, think how devastated Shea will be when she wakes up to find both her husband and child gone!” 

Quinn’s face went pale. 

“Mom, Shea loves me so much. How can you just decide we should divorce!” 

My mother looked at him with pure hatred. 

“Before she lost consciousness, she personally said she wanted to divorce you. Are you still going to pretend you didn’t hear?” 

Quinn opened his mouth, forcing out a defense. 

“Unless Shea tells me to my face that she wants a divorce, I absolutely won’t agree!”
