Chapter 16
At last, Andrew uncovered the truth.
It wasn’t Lucy who stayed by his side and did everything she could to save him. It was Emily who ended up covered in his blood after fearlessly rescuing him.
Lucy was simply the shameless woman who stole the credit from Emily by pretending to be her!
All those years of Andrew’s indulgence and compromise, the sense of duty and obligation he’d borne out of the debt of gratitude he owed her, had been reduced to nothing but a colossal joke.
What had he done to the one who’d truly saved his life?
He’d orchestrated a car accident to threaten her after she tried to look into Lucy. He allowed Lucy to humiliate her before telling her to get lost.
Just because Lucy wanted to have some cookies, he hauled her right off the operating table and
locked her inside a cold storage.
He stood back and watched as Lucy “drew” on her back with a needle and water dyed red with
chili.
Not only had he forced her to jump into a pool covered in glass shards, but he’d also used her parents‘ company to threaten her.
Every single thing Andrew had done to Emily felt like a dagger slicing him up as the memories shot through his mind. Every single one of them was stained with Emily’s blood and tears and filled with his foolishness and cruelty.
Why hadn’t he done a thorough check back then? Why had he bought Lucy’s clumsy, flawed account of the situation so easily?
Why had it never occurred to him that the docile and boring wife from his marriage of convenience would have such a brave and determined side to her?
Overwhelming remorse and self–loathing surged like a tsunami, drowning him completely.
Finally, Andrew snapped his gaze to the seemingly unconscious Lucy on the bed. His eyes instantly turned cold. He was furious–livid at how he’d been fooled.
“Lucy Evans!” he snarled through gritted teeth.
Lucy, who’d only been pretending to be unconscious, was naturally aware of the fact that Andrew had already seen the dashcam footage. The murderous tone in his voice made her tremble in terror, and she instinctively opened her eyes.
Immediately, she saw the rage in his bloodshot eyes and was nearly scared out of her wits!
“A–Andrew… let me explain…” she stammered as she tried to scramble into an upright position.
“You want to explain?”
Andrew whipped his phone up and showed her the video that was still playing on the screen. His

voice shook with fury as he growled, “What do you have to explain? Are you going to explain how you stole someone else’s credit for saving my life and lied to me all these years? Speak!”
Lucy stared at the footage, her face turning pale. Her body went limp, as if every bone of hers had been taken out of her. She collapsed onto the bed.
It was too late. She was done for.
Breaking down, she started laughing hysterically, though her laughter soon turned into desperate sobs as she screamed, “Yes, that’s right! I lied to you. So what? Who told you to be so dumb? Who told Emily, the stupid woman, not to even take the credit for her own good deed?
“You deserved it. Both of you deserved everything! One of you is a fool, and the other is blind! Hahahahaha!”
Andrew stared at her twisted, deranged face, feeling nothing but disgust and detestation.
He took back everything he’d ever given Lucy–the supplementary credit card, the apartment, the luxury goods, as well as all of the connections and resources she’d gained through him.
Charging her with fraud, slander, and other crimes, he had her kicked out of his world completely, seeing to it that she could never make it in the upper society ever again.
In the end, Lucy ended up with her reputation ruined and drowning in debt. She was forced to flee abroad, living in such poverty that she lost her mind.
Meanwhile, after overcoming the shock, regret, and rage, Andrew sank into a never–ending abyss of despair.
He thought about everything he’d done to Emily all these years–his indifference toward the divorce, the way he acted at the police station, abandoning her at the auction, the humiliation he made her endure at the pool, and the wounds he’d allowed Lucy to inflict on her back.
Every act he’d taken and condoned stemmed from a ridiculous lie, and every single moment of suffering had been inflicted on the person who’d truly saved his life.
