Chapter 14

“I’ve always seen you as a sister,” Aaron said slowly.

Nicole fixed her gaze on him, the smile at her lips widening.

“Sister? What brother kisses his own sister?

“What brother knowingly keeps a sister who loves him close, never maintaining distance?

“What brother says no with words while his body responds more honestly than anyone’s!”

Aaron was rendered speechless.

Nicole pressed, “I love you, I’d do anything for you! I’ve cleared all obstacles for you! All you need to do is stand there and love me properly, but why can’t you even do that?”

“And you?!” Aaron flew into a rage.

“What’s your love worth? You say you love me, but how many men have you slept with during your years abroad? I haven’t even called you dirty!”

The air fell silent instantly.

A hurt expression appeared on Nicole’s face.

She sneered coldly, “You have other women, why can’t I have other men? Sleeping with one or several, who’s nobler than whom?”

“Nicole,” Aaron said without emotion, “you’ve destroyed my family.”

Nicole laughed until tears streamed down her face.

Aaron staggered out of the interrogation room, eyes bloodshot as he roared, “Shut up!”

At the doorway, Nicole’s voice followed him-broken and resentful.

“Brother, half the credit for Dad’s death is yours. If you hadn’t given me that ambiguous opportunity, I wouldn’t have acted. He died because of you. Because of you!”

“I still love you now, even though you’re such a coward. What about you? You can only love me now. Dad’s gone, your wife left you. You only have me left. Visit me tomorrow-I’ll miss you.”

Aaron clenched his fist, walking out of the police station without looking back while pressing a hand to his throbbing head.

Back home, he stared at the renovated house-both familiar and alien.

Ashley’s traces had nearly vanished, yet Aaron hadn’t grown accustomed to Nicole’s presence.

In fact, he now wanted nothing more than to erase it completely.

He personally trashed the entire living room, smashing everything to pieces.

The next day, he instructed his assistant to find the best criminal lawyer.

He wouldn’t see Nicole again.

Never again.

After arranging this, he dispatched people to track down Ashley and her child.

He was determined to reclaim his family.

His assistant soon returned with Ashley’s whereabouts.

Along with another update: Ashley had a boyfriend, and Ray adored the man.

Ashley stood before the full-length mirror, trying on outfit after outfit, her bed piled high with discarded clothes.

“Rui Rui, which outfit do you think looks nice?”

“You look beautiful in anything. But if I have to choose, this pastel yellow one feels fresh.”

Bruce walked in carrying Rui Rui, gently pinching his cheek. “What do you say?”

Rui Rui nodded seriously, his tiny voice piping up: “I pick the same as Uncle Bruce.”

“Is it too casual? We’re meeting your parents today.”

“My folks are modern parents. They won’t judge my girlfriend’s clothes. Wear whatever makes you happy.”

Pleased by his words, Ashley changed into the pastel yellow dress.

Holding Rui Rui’s hands, they headed downstairs together.

The car stopped in front of the restaurant. Bruce unbuckled his seatbelt, leaned over, and kissed Ashley in the passen- ger seat before tugging at her seatbelt clasp.

The moment the three stepped out, a group immediately approached.

Aaron led them.

Ashley’s smile faded instantly.

“Aaron.” He moved closer, but a pair of hands abruptly blocked his path.

Bruce stepped forward, halting his advance.

He smirked. “Mr. Miller, in public, shouldn’t you show basic respect to my girlfriend?”

The words “my girlfriend” ignited Aaron’s fury. His icy gaze locked onto the younger man.

“One is my wife, the other is my own son. Who are you talking to?”

He looked at his long-unseen son and unconsciously softened his voice, “Come to Daddy, son.

But the child twisted his head and hid further behind Bruce.

The child who used to burrow into his arms had grown distant from him.

Aaron’s heart shuddered violently.

He looked at Ashley.

“I’ve hired the top criminal lawyer to ensure Nicole gets the strictest sentence. Because of her, we had so many mis- understandings and troubles. But now I completely trust you. I’ve overturned everything from the past. I only believe in you, Ashley.”

“I’m here to take you home.”
