Chapter 1

I was sitting on the sofa, zoning out, when my ninth “husband” walked through the front door. 

His clear voice snapped me out of it. “Leonie, I’m back.” 

I turned my head to look at the man standing there. 

“Who are you?” I frowned, pretending to be confused. “Are you my husband? I think he is called Gerard.” 

He froze for a second, then quickly replied, “No! I… I’m your husband’s friend! Don’t worry, Leonie. I’ll call him right 

now!” 

He pulled out his phone and rushed out to the balcony. 

“Gerard! Leonie lost her memory again! Whoever’s turn it is, come take over!” 

I crept over to the window, listening to Gerard’s friends scrambling to get out of it over the loudspeaker. 

“Gerard, your wife is too clingy. We have to be by her side 24/7. It’s exhausting!” 

“Yeah, Leonie’s great, but she’s way too strict. Come on, even the most righteous cheats now and then.” 

“Gerard, how about you go back this time?” 

“Nope,” Gerard replied lazily. “I’m not going home–the party’s not over for me yet. Can one of you handle it? We’ve been friends for years. But you won’t even do me this one tiny favor? That’s cold.” 

While they were arguing, a calm voice cut in, “I’ll go.” 

It was Thomas Larson–Gerard’s closest friend. 

Thomas, handsome and outstanding, was known for being cold and distant. He was rumored to have been single for all thirty years of his life. 

He was also the first one to oppose Gerard’s whole “fake husband” plan. 

And now, even he felt like joining in? 

About half an hour later, the front door opened with a soft click. 

Thomas walked in, silhouetted against the light. 

“Leonie, I’m back,” he said, his voice deep and pleasant. 

I stood up and stared at the tall, handsome man in front of me. 

“You’re my husband, Gerard?”

“Yeah.” Thomas cleared his throat. “Sorry for being late. Got held up at work.” 

Just as he finished talking, his phone rang. 

He gave me an apologetic look and stepped out onto the balcony to answer.

Gerard’s laid–back voice sounded through the phone. “Thomas, I forgot to tell you–you can hold her hand and hug her, but don’t sleep with her. Sure, I suggested the game–but she’s still my wife.” 

“Got it,” Thomas said. 

For the past three years, no matter who was pretending to be Gerard, they only ever held my hand or held me in their arms. They never crossed the line. 

There were no photos of us together in the house, no ID cards for the man I was living with–nothing. 

I’m an orphan, and due to the memory loss, I did not have any friends. 

So they assumed I would never find the truth. 

And I played along, acting clueless like I believed it all. 

Yet, this time, I wanted to try something different. 

I walked over and wrapped my arms around Thomas’s waist. 

“Honey, even though I lost my memory, I felt this strange closeness the second I saw you. You must be my husband -no doubt about it.” 

I hugged him tightly, letting my hand rest on his firm abs. 

His body stiffened for a second, and then he quickly pulled away. 

“What’s wrong?” I asked. “Honey, do you not like me anymore just because I lost my memory?” 

“No,” Thomas said, avoiding my eyes. His voice was low and raspy. “I still love you.” 

I reached out and unbuttoned his shirt, my fingers tracing the lines of his chest. 

“It’s freezing tonight. Let’s warm up in bed together, okay?” 

Thomas swallowed hard. “Sure.” 

That night, we slept in the same bed. 

Neither of us said anything, as if we both knew exactly what the other was thinking.
