William walked slowly toward the door, his steps heavy as dragging chains.
Anna stood outside, clutching an infant in her arms.
Her eyes were swollen red, makeup smeared across her face, leaving her disheveled as a beggar.
“William, you can’t do this to us.”
Anna’s voice trembled with tears, “He’s your son. You can’t abandon him.”
William stared at the baby, nausea churning in his gut.
This child was proof he’d destroyed his own happiness.
“Are you sure he’s mine?”
He sneered, “Or is he Jose’s?”
Anna turned deathly pale. “How could you say that?”
“Because I remember that night-you and Jose at the hotel.”
William bit out each word, “Did you think I wouldn’t know your scheme?”
Anna staggered backward. “N-no… it’s not…”
“You planned it all, didn’t you?”
Flames of fury burned in William’s eyes. “Made me believe this was my child. Made me leave Jessica. So you two could reap the rewards.”
Truth sliced through every lie like a blade.
William recalled every suspicious detail: Anna’s timely appearances, Jose’s veiled hints, that “chance” hotel en-
counter…
“You played me together.”
His voice turned raw, “I destroyed everything with Jessica for a child that isn’t mine.”
Anna crumpled to the floor, speechless.
William shut the door, sliding down against it until he hit the ground.
Turns out he wasn’t just a coward-he was a complete fool.

His phone rang.
His father’s call.
“Anna came to see me.”
Aaron sounded exhausted. “The DNA results are in.”
William closed his eyes, already knowing.
“Not yours.”
Aaron continued, “I’m old, William. Victor fooled me too.”
After the call ended, William threw his head back and laughed.
The sound echoed through the empty mansion, shrill as an owl’s cry in the night.
He’d been deceived.
Played for a fool.
And Jessica-he’d personally pushed her into his enemy’s arms.
The next day, Anderson group’s stock plummeted.
Partners withdrew investments. Banks demanded loan repayments. Suppliers halted shipments.
William sat in his office, staring at stacks of legal notices and payment demands.
Now he understood-this was also part of Jose’s plan.
First steal his love. Then crush his empire. Leave him with nothing.
“Sir, Mr. Roberts is here to see you.”
His secretary spoke cautiously.
William lifted his gaze, eyes sharpening. “Send him in.”
Jose strode in wearing a tailored suit, a triumphant smile playing on his lips.
“Cousin, long time no see.”
He settled into a chair leisurely. “Heard business has been rough?”
“You did this.”
William stared him down. “All of it. Your plan.”
“Clever.”
Jose applauded softly. “But too late.”

“Why?”
William’s voice shook. “We’re brothers…”

Jose sneered, “Since childhood, you’ve stolen everything that should’ve been mine.
Our parents’ love, the family’s approval, and… Jessica.”
“Jessica was never yours.”
“But now she’s my wife.”
Jose stood up, looking down at him. “And you? You’ve got nothing left.”
“You don’t love her. You just want revenge.”
“Love?”
Jose gently touched his wedding ring. “I’ll spend my whole life loving and protecting her.
Unlike some who abandoned true love for a bastard.”
William lunged at Jose but was blocked by bodyguards.
“Let me tell you a secret.”
Jose leaned close to his ear. “Jessica knows everything.
She knows Anna’s child isn’t yours. Knows about our scheme. Still chose me.”
“Impossible…”
“Because she’s completely given up on you.”
Jose’s words pierced his heart like venomous snakes. “She said even if the whole world lied to her, she’d never give you another chance.”
William collapsed into his chair as if struck by lightning.
Jose straightened his suit, heading for the door. “Oh, one more thing.
Jessica’s pregnant.
With my child.
She says she’ll finally become a real mother.”
Alone in darkness after the door closed, William remembered Jessica’s words: “If you ever stop loving me, let me go.”

He’d promised: “That day will never come.”
Now he understood-it wasn’t that he stopped loving her, but that he never deserved her love.
Late at night, William walked onto the rooftop.
The city lights shimmered below like a sea of stars.
Jessica used to love watching this view, saying it made her forget all troubles.
Now she saw the same lights in Jose’s arms, wearing a smile William could never give her.
Standing here, he saw only his own shadow-
A lonely shadow abandoned by the world.

His phone lit up one last time with a news alert: “Mrs. Jessica Wilson, wife of Roberts Group CEO, safely delivers a baby boy.”
William deleted the notification, then erased all Jessica’s photos and messages from his phone.
Their lives would never cross again.
He’d destroyed everything. Lost everything.
Strong winds tousled his hair.
William closed his eyes, feeling the world’s final warmth.
Suddenly, the rooftop door opened.
An unfamiliar security guard emerged.
“Sir, it’s dangerous here. Please go back.”
William turned with a bitter smile.
Even death wasn’t allowed.
He glanced toward Roberts House’s warm lights in the distance.
Jessica was probably feeding their child now, radiating maternal warmth.
“I know.”
He told the guard before heading toward the stairs.
But he knew the real William had died on this rooftop.
What remained was just a walking corpse.
Across town, Jose changed his son’s diaper while Jessica watched with a tender smile.

Jessica’s phone chimed with an anonymous text: “I’m sorry.”
Jessica glanced at it, silently deleting the message.
Some people, some things-since you chose to walk away, then walk away completely.
There’s no turning back now.
