Chapter 16
Jose glanced at Jessica, slowly answering the call.
“I’m at the hospital.”
William’s voice carried exhaustion. “Jose, I know you hate me, but I need to talk privately.”
“Nothing to discuss.”
Jose’s tone turned icy.
“It’s about Jessica. And our feud.”
William paused. “I want closure.”
Jessica felt unease coil in her chest.
She whispered, “Go. Hear him out.”
Jose frowned. “You’re sure?”
“Yeah.”
Jessica nodded. “Some things need saying.”
An hour later, Jose arrived alone at the hospital.
William leaned against the headboard, pale as parchment.
Seeing Jose enter, he struggled upright.
“Have a seat.”
William gestured to a chair.
Jose remained standing, cold gaze fixed on the bed. “Speak.”
“I have a request.”
William drew a shaky breath. “Leave Jessica.”
Jose’s eyes flashed. “You think you can demand that?”
“I know it’s unfair.”
William smiled bitterly. “But I can’t let go.

Chapter 16
This past year, she’s haunted every thought. Every day is regret.
I hurt her, but I want to make amends.”
“Amends?”
Jose scoffed. “You think there’s still a chance?”
“I’ll trade anything.”
Hope ignited in William’s eyes. “My Anderson group shares. Just leave her.”
Jose studied him silently before replying. “William, do you truly believe she’d return?”
“I’ll wait.”
William’s voice hardened. “Even a lifetime.”
“Then wait.”
Jose turned to leave.
“Wait!”
William’s plea cracked. “Jose, I’m begging you.
I can’t exist without her.”
Jose halted, observing the once-proud man now reduced like a dog.
“You want to see her?”
Jose asked abruptly.
William’s eyes blazed. “You’ll arrange it?”
“She can say goodbye.”
Jose stated flatly. “After that, you disappear.”
“Deal!”
William agreed instantly. “Anything to see her.”
Next afternoon, Jessica entered the hospital room.
William stared blankly out the window until her footsteps made him turn.
Tears welled instantly.
“Jess… you came.’
His voice trembled.

Jessica sat calmly beside the bed. “Jose said you had words.”
“I love you.”
William reached out, but she shifted away. “This year, you’ve consumed me.
I was wrong. Let’s start over.”
Jessica shook her head. “William, that bridge is burned.”
“Why?”
William leaned forward desperately. “I’ll change. Do anything.”
“Because I don’t love you.”
Jessica’s words pierced his heart like a knife, “The moment you chose Anna, my love for you died.”
William’s face instantly turned pale: “No, that’s not what you mean.
You’re just still angry. I can wait for you to forgive me.”
“I’m not angry.”
Jessica stood up, “I just don’t love you anymore.
Just like you didn’t love me back then. It’s simple.”
“No!”
William struggled to get off the bed, “Jessica, you can’t do this to me!
I almost died for you!”
“That was your choice.”
Jessica walked toward the door without looking back, “William, forget me.”
“Jessica!”
William cried out heartrendingly, “You can’t leave!
You can’t leave me!”
Jessica stopped at the door, still not turning around: “Goodbye.”
The moment the door closed, William completely broke down.
He frantically smashed the bedside table, screaming Jessica’s name.

“The patient is agitated and needs a sedative.”
The doctor quickly assessed.
William was forcibly injected with a sedative and gradually calmed down.
But the light in his eyes was gone.
In the hallway, Jose waited for Jessica.
“How did it go?”
he asked.
“It’s over.”
Jessica leaned into his arms, “Completely over.”
“Then our wedding…”
“Proceeds as planned.”
Jessica looked up at him, “I want to become your wife as soon as possible.”
Jose kissed her forehead,
Just then, the nurse’s exclamation came from the ward; “Doctor!
The patient is missing!”
Jose and Jessica exchanged a look, an ominous feeling rising in their hearts.

Surveillance showed that William had slipped away unnoticed by the nurse, dragging his injured leg, and left the hos pital.
“Where would he go?”
Jessica asked worriedly.
Jose’s face darkened: “I don’t know, but I have a bad feeling.”
At that moment, William was standing on the city’s highest rooftop, gazing at the distant sunset.
He took out his phone and dialed Jessica’s number.
“Jessica, I’m on the rooftop.
If you don’t come, I’ll jump.”
