The Anderson group office reeked of alcohol after the rainy night.
William sat behind his desk, three empty liquor bottles before him.
His suit was crumpled, tie hanging loose around his neck, eyes swollen and bloodshot like a beast’s.
“Mr. Anderson, Miss Moore is here again.”
The secretary entered, voice laced with resignation.
William lifted his head, gaze unfocused.
“Tell her to get lost.”
“But she says… she says her stomach hurts. Something might be wrong with the baby.”
William’s hand froze mid-motion.
He stared at Jessica’s photo on the desk—that radiant smile now belonging to another.
And Anna…
“Let her in.”
Minutes later, Anna entered, one hand supporting her lower back.
Her pregnancy showed prominently, face pale with tears glistening in her eyes.
“William…” Her voice trembled weakly. “The baby’s kicking so hard… I’m scared…”
William watched her, disgust churning in his chest.
This woman-who’d personally helped him destroy Jessica-still clung to him.
“What did the doctor say?”
His tone was icy.
“Rest more. Avoid emotional stress.”
Anna lowered herself carefully into a chair. “William, I want to stay at the Anderson manor for a few days. It’s terri- fying alone.”
William’s eyes sharpened instantly.
“The Anderson manor?

Chapter 12
Who do you think you are?”
Anna blanched.
“… I’m carrying your child…”
“My child?”

William stood abruptly, voice dripping sarcasm. “Anna, you didn’t actually think that night meant anything?”
The air turned to stone.
Anna gaped at him, disbelief etching her features.
“What did you say?”
“I said,” William bit out each word, “you and this child mean nothing to me.”
Tears instantly streamed down Anna’s face.
“That’s impossible… You promised to take responsibility…”
“Responsibility?”
William sneered. “When did I ever promise that? Funding this pregnancy is generosity enough.”
The office door swung open again.
Jesse entered leaning on his cane, face thunderous.
“You disgraceful son! What nonsense are you spouting?”
William’s eyes flickered with complex emotion at his father.
“Speaking truth.”
His voice held zero warmth.
Jesse trembled with rage.
“She carries Anderson blood! How dare you treat her this way?”
“Blood?”
William barked a harsh laugh. “For this so-called bloodline, I lost Jessica. What now? Marry this woman?”
“William!”
Jesse slammed his cane. “Jessica is history! She’s infertile-worthless to the Andersons! Why else would you and Victor swap wives if not for an heir?”
“Worth?”

William’s eyes turned bloodshot. “She was my wife! Not some breeding tool!”
“You’re divorced!”

Jesse’s voice rose sharply, “Anna is carrying your child now, you must take responsibility!
That’s the Anderson family rule!”
William stared at his father’s stern face, endless disgust churning inside him.
It was these so-called rules, these so-called family interests, that forced him to destroy what mattered most.
“I won’t marry her.”
He spoke each word deliberately.
Anna nearly collapsed hearing this.
“William, you can’t… the baby needs a father…”
“The baby will have a father, but not me.”
William turned toward the window. “I can give you money, a house, but marriage… I’ll only marry once in this life-
time.”
“But you’re already divorced!”
Anna screamed, her voice tearing.
“Yeah. I’m divorced.”
William’s voice held deep pain. “I destroyed the only woman I ever loved.
So I don’t deserve marriage again.
Jesse watched his son’s defeated state, equal parts furious and anxious.
“What about Anderson group?
What about the family?”
“Victor can take over Anderson group.”
William didn’t turn around. “He’s better suited than me.”
“Victor’s still too young!”
“Then let him grow up”
William faced his father, eyes hollow. “I don’t care about anything right now.
Anna watched him, fierce jealousy rising

“William, Jessica is with someone else now!
You still-”
“Shut up!”
William whirled around, fury blazing in his eyes. “You don’t get to say her name!”
Anna flinched back instinctively.
“This is all you!”
William advanced on her. “If not for your pregnancy, your very existence, Jessica wouldn’t have left!”
“I… I didn’t mean to…” Anna sobbed. “I never expected to get pregnant…’
“Didn’t expect?”
William laughed coldly. “You think I don’t know you drugged me that night?
You think I don’t see your little scheme?”
Anna’s face drained of color.
She hadn’t realized William knew the truth.
“I… I just…”
“You just wanted the title. Wanted to be Mrs. Anderson.”
William’s voice turned icy. “Now you got your wish. Jessica’s gone. I’m ruined.
Happy now?”
Anna trembled under his hate-filled gaze.
This wasn’t what she wanted.
She wanted William’s love, not his hatred.
“William, I truly love you…”
“Love me?”
William sounded like he’d heard the world’s biggest joke. “Do you even know what love is?
Love is Jessica giving up her career for me. Love is her silently enduring everything for this family. Love is her complaining despite all the pain…”
His voice grew thick with tears.
“You? You just wanted the position of Mrs. Anderson.”

He glanced at the caller ID, his heart lurching violently.
It was Jose.
