Chapter 11

Chapter 11

Jessica looked into Jose’s sincere eyes, feeling a warm surge in her chest.

“Jose…”

Her voice trembled slightly as she spoke softly.

“I need some time.”

Jose nodded, releasing her hand.

“I’ll wait.”

His tone was gentle yet firm. “However long it takes.”

Meanwhile, in the top-floor office of Anderson group, William sat alone before the floor-to-ceiling window.

His phone displayed a new message:

“Mr. Anderson, Jose accompanied Ms. Wilson to the charity gala today. They appeared quite intimate.”

William stared at the words, knuckles whitening around the device.

Crack. Spiderweb fractures splintered across the screen.

“She’s really… not coming back.”

His murmur echoed hollowly in the empty office.

Over the following days, similar reports flooded in:

“Ms. Wilson and Mr. Roberts watched a movie together.”

“They spent the entire afternoon at a café.”

“He drove her home personally.”

Each message carved into William’s heart like a razor.

“Sir, are you alright?”

His secretary entered cautiously, concern flickering in her eyes at his disheveled state.

William lifted bloodshot eyes.

He could only numb himself with alcohol.

“Contact Jessica.”

“But sir-”

“Contact Jessica now!”

His voice cracked with suppressed fury and despair.

The secretary flinched, nodding hastily.

“Right away.”

Yet the call connected only to an automated voice:

“The number you dialed is switched off…”

William slumped as if drained of all strength.

She wouldn’t even take his calls.

“Should I visit Ms. Wilson’s workplace-”

“Don’t.”

William waved a weary hand.

“She doesn’t want to see me.”

That night, William parked outside Roberts House.

He remained in his car, watching a lit window.

Warm light spilled through, occasionally framing her silhouette.

What was she doing?

Reading?

Or… thinking of someone else?

The thought clenched his heart like a fist.

He typed message after message:

“Jessica, I was wrong. Give me another chance?”

Deleted.

“I’ll give you everything. Just come back,”

Deleted.

“Without you, I’m nothing…”

Deleted.

In the end, he sent nothing.

Words had lost all meaning.

The next morning, the family lawyer called:

“Sir, the divorce papers are finalized.”

William held the receiver in heavy silence.

“Understood.”

“Regarding the settlement-”

“Transfer all stocks and cash to her.”

The lawyer paused.

“Mr. Anderson, this would mean you’re giving up nearly all joint assets…”

“I said give her everything.”

William’s voice was cold as ice.

He hung up and walked to his desk, picking up the prepared documents.

Page after page detailed properties, shares, bank accounts…

He signed his name on every page.

The handwriting was messy, yet carried an air of finality.

“This money

should last you and him a lifetime.”

He spoke to the empty air as if Jessica stood before him.

But when he handed the signed papers to his lawyer, the response shattered him.

“Mr. Anderson, Ms. Wilson says… she wants nothing.”

“Nothing?”

William’s voice trembled.

“She just wants a clean break.”

The lawyer’s words struck William’s heart like a sledgehammer.

She wouldn’t even take his money.

Severing their last connection.

That night, William sat alone in the empty mansion.

This was once their home.

The curtains Jessica chose, the pothos plant she nurtured, her favorite sofa…

Everything remained, yet nothing could return.

He picked up his phone and dialed Jessica’s number one last time.

This time, it connected.

“Hello.”

Her voice was calm-so calm it froze William’s heart.

“Jess…”

His voice choked, words failing him.

Silence hung for seconds.

“William, let’s release each other.”

Her whisper carried unshakable resolve.

“I’ve signed. It’ll reach you tomorrow.”

“Jess. I-”

Beep beep…

The line went dead.

William stared at the call ended screen.

Their final conversation.

Slowly lowering the phone, he collapsed onto the sofa, tears falling soundlessly.

“I’m sorry…”

He spoke to the vacant room.

“I’m sorry, Jess.”

Outside, rain began to fall.

Across town, Jessica sat with Jose in a café.

“Signed?”

Jose asked softly.

Jessica nodded, complex emotions flashing in her eyes.

“Yes. It’s over.”

Jose reached over, gently covering her hand.

“A new beginning.”

Meeting his gentle eyes, Jessica gradually smiled.

Meanwhile in the mansion, William lost the most important person of his life on that rainy night.

He gazed at Jessica’s photo on his phone-her brightest smile.

Now she’d belong to another man.

Someone better. Someone who’d cherish her properly.

William gave a bitter laugh and set the phone down.
