I left.
Caroline’s expression stiffened, sensing Jaxson’s gaze.
She straightened, looking at him pitifully.
“Jaxson, if I had known that Dr. Sutton disliked me so much, I wouldn’t have come…”
Jaxson calmly withdrew his gaze, picking up Collin.“You stay away from her in the future.”
His words were directed at Caroline.
She paused, lowering her gaze.
A cold glint flashed in her eyes.“Jaxson, are you defending Dr. Sutton?”
*Are you protecting her?*
Jaxson frowned.
He didn’t answer her directly.
“She is very scheming. If you get too close to her, you will suffer. I am doing this for your own good.”
Caroline’s gloom lifted.
*Even if Charlotte seduced Jaxson, so what? I had ways to deal with her! I would marry into the Hamilton family!*

Late at night, I was barely asleep when I heard a noise outside the bedroom.
Dim yellow light flooded the room.
Facing away from the door, I opened my eyes and saw a shadow moving towards the bed.
I closed my eyes, pretending to be asleep.
I used to wait for Jaxson, staying up all night, never seeing him.
Waiting, tiring, then disappointed.
I no longer waited.
Jaxson stood by the bed for a moment, then removed his coat and tie before going to the bathroom.
