Chapter 58
I stared at the text message, hesitating before ignoring it.
He called.
Seeing “Husband” on my screen brought a wave of confusion.
Jaxson never initiated contact before.
Now he was texting and calling?
I answered hesitantly, my tone unfamiliar.“Mr. Hamilton, do you need something?”
The sound of a lighter flicked across the line; he was smoking.
His voice was low and lazy.“Did you not see the message asking you to come to the parking lot?”
“With Ms. Warren around, you can just find her if you need anything.” I tried to end the call.
He chuckled, his voice light. “Have you become tough after finding Reynald as your backer?”
I frowned.“What do you mean?”
“The literal meaning.” Jaxson leaned against his car, a cigarette in hand, toying with a lighter.
“My patience is limited.”
I hung up.
In the underground parking lot, I saw Jaxson’s handsome face.
Perfect, flawless.
I used to love it so much.
Now, it only brought resentment.
I stopped before him, composing myself.“Did you dismiss Charlie’s defense attorney? Why?”
He ground out his cigarette and looked at me.“I told you not to mess with Caroline.”
My heart was calm.
I’d expected that answer.
But I hadn’t expected…
“You promised me something, and because of Caroline, you’re breaking your word? Besides, I never provoked her; she provoked me!”
“Let’s not talk about her for now.” His eyes darkened.

He paused.“Stay away from Reynald. The Hamilton family’s daughter–in–law can’t tolerate any
scandal.”
His words were like shards of glass.
Besides the Hamilton family’s reputation, he cared about Caroline’s.
And I was expected to follow his rules.
My nose wrinkled.
I chuckled.
“What if it was your scandal?”
