Chapter 54
Caroline’s POV
Jaxson sat in the visitor’s chair, long legs crossed, his tall, broad figure effortlessly commanding the expensive suit.
His handsome, almost ethereal features were striking.
The campus heartthrob, secretly adored for three
almost years,
my
husband.
Every time I thought about it, a fresh wave of regret washed over me.
I regretted so much!
“What exactly is the matter with the social event?”
I froze at his question, slowly squeezing out tears.
“It was my negligence, I read the wrong room number, which led to Dr. Sutton being in danger, so no matter how she treats me, I will endure it.”
Jaxson’s expression was complex, but he didn’t answer.
His silence only increased my unease.
“Jaxson, don’t
you
believe me?”
“No,” he paused.“Don’t overthink it.”
Relief washed over me at his words.
I leaned towards him, wanting to snuggle close.
“Jaxson, so about this…”
He stood up abruptly.“I will handle it.”
My body was forced away from him, almost rolling off the bed.
I could feel a shift in his attitude since my return.
He was less attentive, less… affectionate.
He definitely minded my past……
I suppressed a grimace.
If it weren’t for Collin, would he even have touched me?
