Chapter 53
Soon, Lucas told David about it, and the news of me pushing Caroline down the stairs spread like wildfire.
The hospital administration, terrified of the damage to the hospital’s reputation, put me on temporary leave.
I walked out of the dean’s office and ran into Jaxson.
He strode towards me, grabbing my wrist before I could speak, pulling me into the fire escape.
“Didn’t I tell you not to provoke Caroline? Did you just ignore my words?”
His grip hurt.
I frowned, looking at him.
“Did I provoke her? Wasn’t it she who provoked me?”
He asked, “Why did she provoke you?”
“What reasons were there?”
Reasons…
I didn’t know where Caroline’s hostility stemmed from, but it had to be connected to Jaxson.
I pulled my hand away, avoiding his gaze.
“Why don’t we get a divorce, so that I don’t have to constantly bear these unfounded accusations?”
“Charlotte,” Jaxson’s eyes darkened.
“Stop mentioning divorce all the time, divorce doesn’t threaten me.”
“I didn’t threaten you.”
He took a step closer, looking down at me.
The calmer I became, the tighter his brow furrowed.
Suddenly, he sneered coldly.“Is that so?”
“Then
you are on your own.”
Jaxson turned and walked away.
His words left me puzzled.
Did he agree to the divorce, or not?
Moments later, Jaxson entered Caroline’s hospital room.

Caroline saw him and weakly sat up.
“Jaxson, don’t blame Dr. Sutton. She was just too angry and that’s why she accidentally pushed me. I believe she didn’t mean to.”
