Chapter 9
Raymond hoped I’d cooperate with the Miller family’s PR strategy.
He claimed Nicole had mental health issues—after breaking up with her foreign boyfriend, she’d fantasized about be- ing with the brother who’d always doted on her.
He wanted me to clarify Nicole and Jerry’s relationship.
For the sake of the new project, I agreed.
That day, the Millers held a press conference.
Somehow Raymond convinced Lisa, who then declared the earlier test results were fabricated-
merely to prevent Jerry from being with Nicole.
Jerry presented thick medical records documenting Nicole’s longstanding condition.
Nicole herself was absent.
I seized the moment to state that my marriage to Jerry collapsed for unrelated reasons,
not due to Nicole’s interference.
I also confirmed the legitimacy of her illness.
Next, Raymond summoned Nicole’s attending physician-
a blue–eyed foreigner who testified her trauma stemmed from childhood abuse by her biological father,
unrelated to the Millers.
Raymond concluded by apologizing for consuming public attention,
wrapping up the flawless PR campaign.
Seeing Jerry approach me, I turned to leave.
Unexpectedly, he still showed up as my project liaison the next day.
“Must you haunt me like a ghost?”
My irritation surfaced.
Jerry looked dejected. “Pamela, I just wanted to see you.”
Suddenly Daniel barged in clutching an insulated food container,

having caught wind of the situation.
“Unnecessary. I’m territorial-
I won’t tolerate other men eyeing my fiancée.”
Jerry’s gaze snapped to my finger at the word “fiancée.”
A new ring now adorned my middle finger.
Daniel smirked at him. “Care to see my proposal video?”
Jerry retreated pale–faced, leaving a subordinate to handle remaining matters.
Once gone, Daniel launched into theatrics beside me.
“Pamela, your ex deliberately ignored me. How cruel.”
I smiled faintly. “And your solution?”
“Marry me. Immediately.”
He dropped to one knee, producing a gemstone ring
and–from somewhere–a bouquet.
Laughing, I accepted the flowers,
only to discover corporate stock transfer agreements tucked inside.
“Generous, Daniel. Handing me your entire fortune?”
He rose and pulled me into an embrace,
murmuring against my neck:
“You’ve no idea how long I’ve waited for this.”
“What?”
Only then did I learn-
the anonymous love letters in school,
the secret janitor who chased off my bullies-
all Daniel.
“That mountain rescue during college camp…‘
I gasped with sudden clarity.

“During the storm when I sprained my ankle in that pit-

was that you who carried me to the medics?”
Back then, I’d mistakenly believed it was Jerry.
Though I disliked him, that perceived safety
had slowly drawn me into his world.
Daniel confirmed: “Yes.”
“Why didn’t you come find me afterward?”
I punched his shoulder in frustration.
“I’d sprained my ankle too back then. By the time I got bandaged up, Jerry was already standing beside you.”
“I thought you liked him.”
I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
“But we’re together now, and I’m so happy!”
Daniel’s words warmed my heart.
The right person is destined to be together through all the twists and turns.
