I returned home.
Seeing everything so familiar, memories flooded back.
But it was time to let go.
When Jerry came back, several bodyguards were moving things under my direction.
“Pamela, are you leaving?” He sounded shocked.
“Isn’t it obvious?”
“I can explain yesterday. Nicole has mental health issues–she really would’ve hurt herself. I’ve sent her to a treatment facility. Please stay?”
I scoffed coldly. “So now I’m the villain who drove your sister away? Keeping you lovebirds apart?”
Jerry clenched his fists, his expression strained as he pleaded. “Nicole’s just a sister. I won’t let her bother us again. Name anything you want.”
“Oh, what do I want?” My voice turned icy. “I just went downstairs and she cornered me, slashed my arm. Yet some- how I’m the bully? Fine, here’s one demand: never see her again!”
“No!” Jerry’s voice boomed. “She has schizophrenia. When her parents divorced during her teens, nobody wanted her. She almost died. I nursed her back myself.”
“Now she’s finally functional–she relies on me. Pamela, she didn’t grow up with a silver spoon like you, surrounded by people waiting to love her. She only has me.”
For the first time, I watched Jerry choose someone else without hesitation.
It was just ridiculous.
I laughed until tears welled up.
“Right. I’m so loved. Too selfish to yield. Petty and vicious—I settle scores on the spot. If you pick her, disappear from my life!”
Disappointment flashed in Jerry’s eyes before he shot back, “Fine. I’ll take her away. If you can’t tolerate Nicole, we’re
done!”
He stormed to the bedroom for his documents and slammed the door behind him.
A mover cautiously asked, “Ma’am, should we keep packing?”

Covering my eyes with a hand, I rasped, “Continue.”
I’d been living at the studio lately, working nonstop.
My friend Jennifer visited, handing me her phone. “See this.”
It was Nicole’s social media feed:
[Three meals hand–fed daily, unlimited black card~ Who’d treat me like a baby without you?]
Accompanied by a photo of Jerry looking domestic in an apron.
[Mean brother won’t buy ice cream! Take me to the amusement park as compensation!]
Showed Jerry carrying a women’s bag while lining up for crispy potato swirls.
[Clothes stained? No worries–someone’s always ready to wash them!]
Featured Nicole in an oversized shirt with Jerry scrubbing her pants in the background.
I used to rage seeing these posts.
Now, I calmly returned the phone.
Jennifer eyed me curiously. “You’re really over it!”
“Have the divorce papers drafted ASAP,” I said, diving back into work.
She pulled the documents from her bag. “That’s why I’m here.”
Then she removed my glasses and nudged me toward the door. “Enough work. Introducing you to a super hot guy tonight!”
Her mysterious smile stopped me from refusing.
We drove to a bar.
Unexpectedly, I ran into familiar faces there.
Nicole and Jerry.
