TESSA

I started working overtime and barely had the chance to eat or do anything personal.

It was highly exhausting but I can only hope to achieve this goal.

One afternoon,my phone rang out.

I smiled seeing it was Edgar.

We had talked a few times for the past two days….though it was brief because I’ve been very busy.

“Hello.”

‘I’m so sorry for disturbing you,busy lady, but I’m at the front of your work place.”

I gasped. “C’mon, Edgar. You know how busy I am right now.I can’t come see you.”

‘I understand but I won’t take much of your time, I promise.I just guessed that you might not be feeding well since you had a project to work on and I got you something.”

‘Oh,you didn’t have to.”

‘It’s crispy chicken and pasta.”

swallowed and shut my eyes.

can’t say no to that.

And I’m very hungry right now.

glanced at my watch.”Alright, I’ll be down in five.”

You’re a life saver, Edgar. “I said to him as we met in front of the company.

He smiled and handdd a box to me.

What did you have for breakfast?” He asked.

Nothing.”

He slowly shook his head. “You told me this project is very important but if you fall sick now, you won’t be able to complete it so your health should come irst.”He advised.

Yes,sir.”

He suddenly closed the distance between us and cupped my cheek.

My eyes widened

“You have dark circles under your eyes. They don’t look good on you.”

I swallowed and slowly moved backwards.

His hand fell to his side

Chapter 16

You should go up and eat now.”He said.

I knew if I go back to my desk… I might get distracted by work so I looked around and caught sight of the empty chairs at the side of the company’s building.

“I think I might just eat over there.”I said pointing at the chairs.

“Can I sit with you?”Edgar asked with a smile.

“Sure.”

As soon as we got seated,I opened the box and started eating.

I knew I should eat elegantly but I was too famished.

1 devoured the meal which happened to be so delicious.

Halfway through,I asked, “Will you like some?”

He chuckled.”No,it’s all yours.”

I devoured a chicken and paused to savor the taste.

“This is so good…”

“I’m glad you like it.Eat slowly so you wouldn’t….”

Too late….

I choked and bent down coughing.

“The food isn’t going anywhere,Tessa. “Edgar cooed and I felt his hand on my back…rubbing it gently.

When I felt better and sat up straight,he handed me a bottle of water.

I smile and opened it…drinking to my heart’s content.

He’s so kind.

“I’m sorry about that.”I said feeling a bit embarrassed.

“It’s fine. Be careful.”He warned.

He’s caring too.

Looking up,I was startled to see Declan and his secretary passing by.

Our eyes met but there was this cold look in his eyes.

With hands in his pocket,he walked off without acknowledging my presence as usual.

“Asshole.”I murmured.

“Do you know him?”Edgar asked.

“Yes,He’s my boss.”

He grimaced. “With your choice of words, you don’t seem to like him.”

I sighed “Let’s just say he’s someone I don’t wish you to see at all.”

After 1 finished eating Egar saw me off to the front of the company.

Thank you so much for the meal.”

He grinned. “Don’t mention.”

“Bye. “I let out, awkwardly and walked into the company.

I stood in among some people waiting for the elevator.

“Acting all lovey dovey at work,are we?”Hearing that familiar voice,I looked sideways to see Declan.

“I can finally see why there was a mistake on the parameters. Instead of being focused at work. You women are getting distracted by men.”He let out,mockingly.

Even if Edgar and I were just friends.

I didn’t see the need to explain myself to Declan.

“Mr Hudson.I believe there isn’t any policy against dating.And you shouldn’t say all the women are getting distracted simply because you saw me with a man.That’s purely rude of you.”

He scoffed. “I’m looking forward to see you waste your time next week.There’s no way you can complete the project.”

I glared at him.

What happened to words of encouragement?

He’s just so mean and I wasn’t ready to put up with him so I spun and took the staircase.

I would rather have aching legs from climbing the staircase than get into an elevator with that jerk.
