Harrison’s eyes suddenly lit up.

He thought he saw a glimmer of hope.
“I already had a plan when I came here. Our family and
the Hartwells have announced the marriage. I can’t
leave Lorelei for at least a year.”
He continued, “But I’ve already prepared a penthouse apartment for you, with top–notch security. I’ll visit you as often as I can.”
“Once the gossip dies down and I have full control of the company, I’ll divorce Lorelei. And then, I’ll marry you.” full
Before I could respond, Lachlan exploded with rage.
He lunged forward, grabbing Harrison by the collar. “You son of a bitch,” he snarled, “you want to hide Evelyn away as your secret mistress?”
Harrison shoved him away and turned to me, his eyes filled with an unshakeable confidence.

“Evelyn, think about it. Everyone knows we’ve been together for four years.”
His voice was terrifyingly gentle.
“Besides, Tim still has to apply to the Ivy Leagues and for scholarships. Without my influence, how can he succeed here? Even if you don’t think about yourself, you have to think about him.”
My heart sank as pure hatred surged through me.
Even in this life, he was using Tim to threaten me.
Tim yelled, “I don’t need your help!”
Harrison’s face darkened.
He turned to me, a dangerous glint in his eyes.
“Evelyn,” he said, his voice dropping to a low, dangerous murmur, “you will agree to my proposal. Am I wrong?”
I smiled and replied calmly, “Of course.”
Tim and Lachlan stared at me, their faces a mixture of anger and disbelief.

5 Chapter 5
Lachlan muttered in disappointment, “Evelyn, how
could you…”
Tim cried out, “Auntie, don’t agree to it!”
Remembering the tragic way Tim’s life was destroyed in my past life, I was overcome with emotion, which triggered a violent coughing fit that left me breathless.
“Auntie!” Tim cried out in alarm.
I shook my head, suppressing the roiling hatred I felt
for Harrison.
I turned to Tim and gave him a look that pleaded for
his trust.
“Tim,” I whispered, “Trust me. Please?”
