Chapter 9

The cost of smoothing things over was heavy-I left the house the next day holding my back and trembling in the legs.

When Mia saw me, she burst out laughing. “Do you know what’s written all over your face right now?”

“What?”

“Sexual exhaustion.”

“…Fuck off!”

She giggled while massaging my legs, then asked, “Seriously though, how do you feel about Derek now? You really don’t care about him and Nora’s messy

situation?”

I tilted my head thinking. “I mind, but not that much.”

“What do you mean?”

“More than whether his soul is pure, I’m worried about him catching diseases from other women.”

Mia stared blankly for a moment, then silently gave me a thumbs up.

“Damn.”

Can’t blame me for that-living through two lifetimes, I was basically sixty years old now. Who had time for all that lovey-dovey drama?

I’d loved him during the most beautiful years of my life, then spent 20 years soaking in bitterness.

What ups and downs, what storms hadn’t I weathered?

It wasn’t that I didn’t like Derek, but as for how much I cared about him-that was hard to calculate.

At least he brought home six figures every month, letting me live comfortably and securely. Since he was more considerate and gentle than before, I’d give him

Some affection back.

As for life, who knew what the future would bring or if people’s hearts would change?

iving in the present was what mattered most.

When my parents finished their MBA and came back, they started working on new ventures.

invited them to film with me, and the view counts were pretty good.

My parents became minor internet celebrities through this, using their influence to land several projects in their circle.

Our whole family took it step by step, slowly building up our assets again.

hree years into marriage, I got pregnant and had a daughter.

My parents were over the moon and moved in to help with childcare.

Derek was fine with this-he liked the house being lively and worked even harder.

fter five years of work, just like in my past life, he became a law firm partner with an income approaching eight figures.

With his wealth skyrocketing and more women circling around, Derek was still the same as before-didn’t even know what our bank cards looked like.

Every time he finished a case, he’d take the whole family out to have fun; occasionally helping with my livestreams or vlogs, clearly enjoying himself.

When our daughter turned five, I forced Dad to get a checkup and sure enough, they found lung nodules.

After surgery, Derek and I went to St. Mary’s Cathedral to give thanks.

That’s where Derek said there was a very wise priest.

Derek took our daughter to light candles while the priest asked to speak with me privately.

He sighed deeply.

“Finally, your parents’ prayers were answered.”

Turns out, after my parents died in my past life, I’d survived with my weak, sick body.

When I was bullied and harassed by debt collectors, my parents’ souls saw everything.

They prayed to God for years, offering their eternal rest and using their lifetime devotion plus heavenly service to secure me a chance at rebirth.

Finally, they’d changed my tragic ending.

I wanted to cry and laugh at the same time, grateful that I’d made the right choices this time and hadn’t wasted my parents’ sacrifice.

Wiping away tears, I saw Derek and our daughter coming out.

I thanked the priest and ran toward my child.

Life’s road is long-don’t forget where you came from. From now on, I’d honor my parents properly and live well for myself.
