Chapter 11 

Martin’s hand clenched suddenly, almost crushing the phone. “What did you say?” 

There was a pause on the other end, “Yes, please come and claim the body as soon as possible.” 

In an instant, my mind froze as if it had been paused, and I couldn’t hear anything. 

He could hardly keep his balance. 

How is it possible? I just made a phone call before getting on the plane, how could the person 

disappear…. 

It’s impossible, I don’t believe it, go back and find her. 

Yes, go back and find her. 

With this in mind, he trembled slightly as he booked the earliest flight and stumbled into a taxi to 

the airport. 

Time had never been so long before. 

When we arrived at the familiar land, it was already close to 3 o’clock in the morning. 

Martin didn’t know how he had managed to get to the hospital. 

When he came to his senses, he grabbed onto the doctor and wouldn’t let him go, as if clutching onto a life–saving straw. 

The doctor said gently, “You let go first, I will help you check.” 

Martin let go with a gloomy face. 

“Evelyn, had an unexpected fall resulting in a miscarriage, and was admitted to the hospital yesterday during the day…” 

With every word the doctor said, Martin’s face grew paler. 

Martin clenched his fist tightly and hoarsely said, “Fell down? How did she fall down? Did someone push her?” 

The doctor shook his head, indicating uncertainty, and then said, “Time of death was twenty to two in the afternoon, and the body was taken away.” 

Upon hearing these words, Martin clenched his teeth tightly and squeezed out a sentence, “Who is it?”

“Her friend Jenny.” 

Martin rushed to Jenny’s house overnight, and the sound echoed throughout the floor. 

As soon as the door opened, Jenny, with her eyes red, shouted, “What are you knocking on the door for in the middle of the night?” 

Martin squeezed out a sentence from his throat, with his crimson eyes wide open. 

“What about Evelyn?” 

She turned her face away with a cold expression. 

As the gaze shifted, it suddenly settled on the picture frame hanging on the we 

Martin’s pupils suddenly contracted, and instinctively he took a step forward, as the candlelight gradually illuminated the person in the photograph. 

It was a black and white photo of Evelyn. 

With a loud “boom,” something exploded in his mind, causing him to sway and almost lose his 

balance. 

His tightly closed lips parted slightly, and he whispered, “Evelyn’s…” 

He paused, unable to utter the word “corpse“. 

Jenny couldn’t see her expression, but she only heard her coldly say, “She was cremated.” 

“Cremated?” Martin’s mind was in a haze, and it took him a while to react. 

He suddenly sat up angrily and said, “I am her husband, why did you cremate her without my permission?” 

-Jenny sneered and questioned, “Did you answer the phone?” 

This question pierced my heart like a sharp blade, causing waves of pain. 

She lay on the hospital bed, repeatedly dialing her family’s phone numbers. And what was the result? Not a single person answered. She had already become completely disappointed in all of 

you. 

At this, Jenny choked up and said with a sob, “Cremation was her final wish.” 

Martin’s eyes were lifeless as he listened quietly. He dared not imagine how desperate Evelyn must

have been lying on the hospital bed. 

Jenny looked at the man in front of her, who seemed lost and soulless, shook her head and sighed, “I’ve seen enough, just go. 

After a long while, the man finally moved and said in a hoarse voice, “I want to take the ashes with 

me.” 

Jenny remained silent for a moment, turned to the side, and made way. 

Martin’s gaze fell upon the urn, and his body abruptly froze, his legs feeling as heavy as lead, 

unable to move. 

He took a deep breath and walked past it with difficulty. 

When the hand touched the cold urn, the palm suddenly trembled. 

It was very cold, and Evelyn was probably not used to it… 

His eyes dimmed, and he gently held out his hands, as if cradling a precious treasure. 

As Jenny walked out the door, she suddenly called out to him, “Evelyn said that she wants her ashes to be scattered in the sea, let her wish come true.” 

Martin tightened his grip and remained silent. 

He sat in the bedroom blankly, without turning on the light, sitting alone from darkness until dawn. 

The phone rang persistently since dawn. 

Martin moved slightly and his eyes bloodshot from a sleepless night. 

He blinked his sore eyes and finally answered the phone, “Hello, this is a law firm. There is a will from Ms. Gomez that needs to be announced. Are you available now?”
