Chapter 13

“Vincent!” Kimberly called out to him several times, but he didn’t respond at all.

She was both anxious and furious. The guests below began to whisper among themselves, and the emcee frantically tried to smooth things over.

Kimberly hastily nudged Vincent in the arm. Only then did he snap out of it.

The emcee quickly added that perhaps the groom was simply exhausted from the wedding preparations and asked everyone for their understanding.

Vincent and Kimberly then distractedly exchanged rings.

Soon, it was time for the toast.

“I’m not feeling very well. I’ll make the toast later,” Vincent said.

Without waiting for a reply, Vincent turned and walked away without caring about her feelings or what she thought. She wanted to chase after him and ask what was wrong, but the guests were all waiting.

Left with no choice, Kimberly stayed behind to appease them.

“Vincent drove all night yesterday, so he’s a bit tired. He’ll greet everyone later,” she explained.

With that, she picked up a glass of wine and toasted to the room. Although some guests were clearly

puzzled, no one said anything at that moment. After all, it wasn’t their wedding.

When Vincent returned backstage, Danny immediately handed him the box.

He opened the clasp on the box and saw a small cassette tape and a parental disownment agreement. He froze for a moment upon taking in the bold letters of the document title.

Did Keira have such a bad relationship with the Yorks? Why would she voluntarily cut ties with them?

Judging from how caring Frank and Melinda always were toward Kimberly, he couldn’t make sense of it.

As Vincent’s fingers brushed over the tape, he felt that it looked oddly familiar. He vaguely remembered that Keira had once brought this very tape to him, asking him to listen to it.

But at the time, he had thought that she was just making a fuss and had no interest in whatever it

contained.

Now that she had given it to him again, he suddenly felt a strong urge to hear its contents. He found a computer and inserted the tape.

After a burst of static, a male voice began telling a story. The voice was clear and mellow. It struck something deep inside him right away.

The one speaking on the tape was none other than himself. It was the recording he had made when he

was blind to tell Kiki stories.

He wondered why Keira had it. Could it be that the one who had been by his side all along was Keira and not Kimberly? Or had Keira stolen it from her again?

Vincent immediately pulled out his phone to call Keira and ask for answers. But no matter how many times he tried, the call wouldn’t go through.

So, he grabbed the tape and stormed off to find Kimberly. He figured that she must know about this tape if she had been so adamant that she was the one who stayed by his side.

He pulled her aside as she was making her rounds at the reception and asked urgently, “Kimberly, was it really you who stayed by my side all that time?”

His grip was so firm that Kimberly couldn’t break free.

“What’s going on with you? Why are you suddenly asking me that? Of course I was the one who stayed with you! Who else would love you as much as I do? You’ve been distracted all day. What’s wrong with

you?” she responded irritably.

“Then do you remember the story I told you?” Vincent’s voice dropped low.

“Of course I remember… But it’s been so long. I can’t quite recall the details.” Kimberly deliberately

avoided meeting his eyes. Her guilt and panic were as plain as day.

At that moment, even if Vincent hadn’t figured everything out yet, he was sure about one thing-Kimberly

was a fake!

The one he had been searching for all along was Keira.
