Chapter 12
Chapter 12
1/2
Just as the wedding was about to begin, a young boy holding a cup of grape juice suddenly ran into the hall and bumped straight into Kimberly. The deep purple grape juice instantly stained her pristine white
dress.
Kimberly cried, “My dress! Whose brat is this? Who let him in? Take him out right now!”
Hearing the commotion, Vincent quickly came over. The moment he noticed the impatience on
Kimberly’s face, he was so stunned that he froze in place. 1
In his mind, she had always been the gentle and quiet type. Even when faced with trouble, she never lost
her composure. So, seeing her like this now caught him off guard.
“Vincent? When did you get here? I didn’t even see you,” she said sweetly.
When Vincent looked at her again, he saw the same gentle expression on her face. It was completely different from the one she had shown just moments ago.
“I heard you cry out, so I came to check. Are you alright?” Vincent asked.
“I’m fine. It’s just that I’ve got grape juice all over me now. I’ll change into another dress. Wait here for me, okay?” Kimberly replied demurely.
“Okay.” Vincent nodded.
However, he couldn’t shake his strange unfamiliarity when looking at Kimberly. It wasn’t a fleeting feeling that came and went. It felt as if something about her now didn’t quite match the person he used to know.
Sometimes, when he least expected it, the face that flashed in his mind wasn’t Kimberly’s. It was Keira’s.
A trace of doubt stirred in his heart, but he couldn’t voice it. After all, Kimberly was his wife, and he was
Keira’s brother-in-law.
“Brother-in-law, huh?” Vincent repeated in his mind.
Suddenly, he remembered how Keira had called him that, just before she got into the car. Her face had been pale as she handed over the wedding gift she had prepared before quietly leaving.
He hadn’t even had time to respond to her.
Upon remembering the box, Vincent decided to take a look at it. He took the elevator to the parking lot and began searching through the car. When he couldn’t find it, he called for his assistant, Danny Orval, to
come over.
“Where is the box I handed to you this morning?” Vincent asked.
“You mean the box Ms. York’s younger sister gave you?” Danny asked hesitantly, sensing the shift in his
tone.

Vincent frowned in frustration. “What’s this? You couldn’t even hold onto something I handed you?”
“Mr. Slater… Ms. York said that the gift wasn’t anything valuable and told me to just throw it away,” Danny
answered timidly.
“What?” Vincent’s voice rose, hinting at his irritation. “Do you remember where you threw it? Go find it now!
“Yes, right away!” Danny immediately ran off.
Watching Danny’s retreating back, Vincent felt a strange sense of unease creeping in.
Ten minutes later, Danny rushed backstage holding the box. Just as he was about to hand it over, Kimberly came over. He discreetly stepped aside with the box.
“Vincent, why are you here? I couldn’t find you after I changed. What do you think of this dress?” Kimberly
asked expectantly, twirling to show it off.
The long, purple mermaid gown with a train sparkled under the lights.
But Vincent’s expression dimmed. He remembered very clearly that Kiki had once said that she didn’t like the color purple. So, why would she choose it as her wedding dress now? 1
The doubts in his mind piled up, and his thoughts spiraled into chaos.
“It looks beautiful. The color suits you,” Vincent said, smiling. But the smile didn’t reach his eyes.
Kimberly didn’t notice that something was off with Vincent. She was busy vainly admiring herself in the mirror, dressed in her expensive gown.
Soft piano music began to play. The emcee stepped onto the stage and began the classic wedding
opening speech.
As the introduction of the bride and groom began, Kimberly’s face glowed with joy.
In contrast, Vincent’s expression remained stoic. He held Kimberly’s hand and slowly walked onto the stage. But then, the face that appeared in his mind wasn’t Kimberly’s but Keira’s. 3
He stood where he was, unable to take a step forward.
“Vincent? What’s wrong?”
